11. Indeed. I'm sure there's at least one billionaire out there
seriously considering whether or not to have his garage re-roofed, so job creation is up and running.

4. 11 years
And just a few more jobs but a lot more people. That's called an EPIC FAIL.

But the topic is never addressed head on as the key symptom of a dead economy.

7. There is a season...
Very thought provoking response and, yes, I hit the Wiki dictionary on that one. But you're right. We're
screwed, absent some true genius and innovation on a global basis. None of that flowing from on high, so
it's time for some 13 year old science student to figure it out;)

,,,and they did, sure enough.

Got a big depression going, what do you do -> cut spending, which withdraws both jobs and stimulus from the depressed economy. You and I need to repeat this until we damn well believe it!

29. I'm sorry to hear that
It's a hard market out there. Fortunately, there are employers and companies that go out of their way to be decent
because it's so hard. They will be remembered (like Amazon's free shipping all the time). Some tech companies - $20-$25
mil a year range - in this area, near DC, are going out of their way to provide good medical AND supplement it to keep
coverage at 100%. Guess what, the companies are the fastest growing around. Hope your mom runs into a good place to
work where it is in dignity and respect.

30. Then there are the unemployed unemployed who are not even counted in the U6.
Edited on Fri Sep-23-11 06:55 AM by fasttense
"There is a point at which the BLS stops considering an unemployed person unemployed. That point is reached when an unemployed person has not look for a job in the previous 12 months. When asked, the BLS replied, “The 3.9 million individuals not in the labor force that you are referring to responded that they wanted a job, but had not looked for a job in the last 12 months. They are not considered unemployed because they had not actively searched for work in the four weeks preceding the survey.""

So add those uncounted to your mix and you get 25% unemployment in many states.

That is an excellent analysis.

Here's another excellent source - Shadow Government Statistics http://shadowstats.com

?hl=ad&t=1314970616
This analysis hits 25% unemployment right now.

"The seasonally-adjusted SGS Alternate Unemployment Rate reflects current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated long-term discouraged workers, who were defined out of official existence in 1994. That estimate is added to the BLS estimate of U-6 unemployment, which includes short-term discouraged workers.

"The U-3 unemployment rate is the monthly headline number. The U-6 unemployment rate is the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) broadest unemployment measure, including short-term discouraged and other marginally-attached workers as well as those forced to work part-time because they cannot find full-time employment." John Williams

31. The Hawaii number isn't quite accurate in depicting the situation.
Hawaii has one of the highest costs of living in the United States. Plus the money that has come into the state over the last decade has gone right out and the vast majority has been left behind. It is no economic paradise.

It's tough in high income areas. Wages are higher but when the you know what hits the fan, the fall can be pretty

I thought you were on the distribution list.

Here's the rest of them. I just cut it off at 15% U-6, more manageable chart. But it's ugly all the way down, except North Dakota, which, btw, has a state bank that works for THE PEOPLE. Go figure.
