"Well, that's just life!" A young Republican Christian's answer to |
|
people with no insurance dying from lack of health care. Would that be Darwinian Socialism if one actually believed in Darwin? The survival of the fittest and all of that stuff.
Talk about a jaw droppingly stupid remark! Just let them all eat cake. What does it matter as long as I am insured and sheltered and have a job.

11. Well, you might think you were being sarcastic but it is in PERFECT harmony with |
|
Christianity as it is propounded by the Christian Bible and practiced by those who adhere to it. Aren't you aware of the promise of immortality 'guaranteed' to those who accept Jesus? The religion is based on and supported by all the aspects of death which is either accepted or ignored...it is the farthest thing from life-affirming as any ology could possibly be.

57. Gee, I don't know Ben. |
|
I read some stuff in there about feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, and providing for the poor. There was also some stuff about not judging people lest I be judged myself. And loving others as much as I love myself - that was in there too.
There was also some really weird erotic love poetry in the Old Testament that I thought was cool.
If you ask me, the trouble isn't with the Bible or Christianity. The Bible is like a roarshach test. People look for things to justify their own attitudes and behaviors. Where I see God commanding me to be compassionate and generous with my fellow man, others read the same book and imagine that they see God giving them an excuse to act like dicks. Because, make no mistate, they were going to act like dicks regardless.

|
Let's face it. Most of these really right wing Christians are not very educated people. The one's I know certainly aren't. Unless you consider college at a Christian College a good education.
Some of these kids have spent their whole lives in Christian schools. They go from grade school clear through to college. And then they marry someone who thinks just like they do. And they tend to be very careful who they associate with - don't want any of the bad thoughts to rub off.
And some are homeschooled by parents who aren't much smarter than a ficus plant.
It's really a very sorry state of affairs.

I really don't know what percent of the population here in the Midwest really thinks like this. Seems like i run into these people a lot.
But there are lots of really good, kind people here, too. We have a lot of pretty rigid Baptists and Holy Rollers around but we also have a lot of really nice Presbyterians and Methodists, too. They tend to be very liberal.

one hundred percent in accord with natural law. :-) In our not so infinite wisdom we have attempted to legally enforce the notion that every human is exactly equal in every imaginable way. It is a fool's errand and will probably end the species if we don't abandon the failed experiment. (That is a true progressive approach to the situation, by the way) :-)

We developed the concept of society for some really good reasons. Like so that life was worth living.
I don't think I would have survived more than a day if it weren't for the intervention of health care.
Course, we wouldn't have a population problem like we do now.

Their real religion is being an affluent suburban American, and therefore, as they see it, the highest form of humanity. Their religion is all "me-me-me," which is ironic, considering that the earliest evangelicals were quite socially conscious.

60. Spoken in the abstract |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-24-11 07:20 AM by quaker bill
These folks have no earthly idea what they are asking for, who and how many would be affected, and what that country they seek would look and feel like. If they get what they are asking for, almost everyone will have at least a friend or two who are dying without healthcare, many far more than that. In that world it will not be all that difficult to find children here suffering severe malnourishment without hope of aid.
The ensuing revolt that would surely arise from this would redistribute wealth in ways only Marx and Engles considered appropriate. Curiously, most of them would end up being participants.
