Because I'm pretty sure that was what was in dispute in the first place.

18. Did someone say he 'can NOT be guilty' because he's black? |
|
I haven't seen anyone say that. What I saw was that he has always maintained he was innocent, seven of the witnesses have admitted that they lied, there are witnesses who have stated that one of the two witnesses who have not recanted, the guy who initially accused Davis of the murder, has confessed to several people that he was the one who was guilty. There is also a witness who says that she and her family had to move after being threatened by that individual.
What people said was that enough doubt has been created regarding Davis' guilt. Doesn't have anything to do with him being Black. He may be INNOCENT! But he WAS Black and he's dead, innocent or not.
What were the circumstances in the other case? Looks like there was no doubt that he was guilty to me.

19. I really hope you're not serious. |

99 percent of the outrage is based SOLELY on the fact that the guy was African American...both in the blogosphere and here on DU and the more than obvious implication is that he was convicted for little or no other reason. Maybe we should just do away with courts and put every defendant up for an internet vote like some absurd extension of American Idol or such. :eyes:

the rest of the civilized world by moving away from this dark ages, barbaric practice. We are currently in the company of Saudi Arabia and other oppressive societies who we hypocritically point fingers at on human rights issues. At least even Saudi Arabia has now made it illegal to execute someone who was a minor at the time of the crime. We are not even up to THOSE standards.
I don't care what ethnicity someone is, I am opposed to state killing period. So, yes, I AM serious. I oppose all killing by the state. Revenge is not justice and by now it should be of concern to most Americans that no other civilized nation still engages in it.

7. One plead guilty and confessed - the other didn't? |

Prosecutors often cut a plea deal for life in prison if the criminal cooperates. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that a clemency appeal was treated similarly. Why would you confess to a capital offense otherwise?
