Marijuana question sky-rockets to top of new White House petition site
I remember it so well..
President Obama had taken a Public Poll of issues the Public wanted him to change..
This was the very top subject on Obamas site before he was elected..
BUT,,, You never every heard the results truthfully as Cannabis was at the very top
with a huge margin of votes above any other issue.

A petition to legalize and regulate marijuana quickly jumped to the top of a the White House's online petition site on Thursday, the first same day it was launched.

The petition, on the White House's "We the People" site, asks: "Isn't it time to legalize and regulate marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol? If not, please explain why you feel that the continued criminalization of cannabis will achieve the results in the future that it has never achieved in the past?"

The White House has promised to issue an official response for any petition that gets at least 5,000 signatures within 30 days. As of Thursday night, the marijuana petition already had more than 10,000 signatures.

2. Here's my guess as to what will happen in the next fourteen months with this issue.
Nothing. I'm sure there will be a response, but it won't say much.

I could be very wrong on that score.

In Obama's next (and last) term, though? I think we could see some deregulation/detachment at the federal level....if not outright legalization.

Personally, I think the Feds should look at it as an opportunity for some brilliant tax revenue. Deficit? What deficit?

4. 17,321 signatures now..
which the WH will either discount or ignore...as the Obama administration, much like that of his predecessor, has turned out to be nothing but a bunch of drug warriors..

5. I predict:
They will disagree that their approach isn't working, and follow that with a joke about hippies and doritos.

7. Republicans believe in "states rights" only when it serves them
Wonder if Obama will continue his "states rights" push when it comes to cannabis.

10. Obama doesn't realize how powerful an election issue this is.
The first legislation FDR did -- and one of the things he campaigned strongly on -- was the repeal of Prohibition.
Conservative Republicans proposed and passed Prohibition. It took a courageous Democratic president (and Congress) to finally end it.

That time has come again. Unfortunately, this time, we don't have a courageous democratic president or Congress.

12. I think Obama's problem is the people he has for advisers. They're all Blue Dogs
DLC types.

13. Yet another brilliant political move that Obama and Co.
can ignore completely, to his own fucking detriment. "Conventional wisdom tells me (along with my useless parade of assholes that I call a Cabinet) that this is a losing issue. Somebody give me a deficit injection, stat!"
