A few questions:
Edited on Fri Sep-23-11 04:22 PM by kentuck
If Rick Perry is so weak, why is he leading in all the Republican polls?

What do poor working Republicans find attractive about the Republican Party?

How many Republicans receive Social Security and Medicare and what do they think of those benefits when they receive them?

Do Republicans truly hate blacks and gays or is it just exaggerated in these Republican debates?

What type of country do you think Republicans really want??

2. If the GOP had been attractive, the Dems wouldn't have slaughtered them in 2006 & 2008
The GOPers have to hope for voters disappointed in Obama and the Dems

Republicans are stupid.

Their into hard-core S&M.

Its only whats owned to them, but no body else.

Not hate, its just that blacks/gays/etc... should not exist in God's Country.

If only Hitler had won WW2.

7. Perry is familiar to the pubs....in a Dubyaesque sort of way.
Good ol boy, Texas drawl, mean..look at those squinty eyes, corrupt and he lies like a pro. Plus he prays...shades of the bitter bible toting gun slinging right wing hero.

I don't know why poor pubs like them, maybe because they think they will make a small government...never mind it will kill them off.

Don't pubs think they have SS and Medicare coming to them, but from someone other than the government. They always forget that part.

Many of them do truly hate blacks and gays, it's not exaggerated. Bigotry is part of republicanism, listen to them talk.

They want a country just like dear old dad had, one that is pre-1955. Where everybody was kept in 'their place' and where those who dared to come forward were beaten back to subservience.

9. #2, 4 - racism and yes
Edited on Fri Sep-23-11 07:28 PM by sam11111
We must counter the closet racist vote to win easily

No progressive prez since civil rights movement due to white backlash.

Obama won due to a fluke: Banks sank the economy a week or so before the prez election. Rare rare fluke. Once every 600 years.

To get mildly racist voters to forget racism:

Jobs For All...no fear competition from blacks

Guarantee house value...no fear blockbusting

---------------
Ethnic conflict elects the RW often --->

Europe antiMuslim feeling has elected a RW europe

Antisemitism helped Hitler keep power

10. Obama wasn't a fluke, just more of the same in a different package.
He was going to win as soon as he had the nomination and was only down briefly due to the Phailin bump and his acceptance speech getting buried by said Phailin. McShame didn't have a puncher's chance, meltdown or no but it was definitively over when he made his "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" speech that was completely absurd. At that point he lost the "serious" Republicans as well and was going to get whipped.

11. #2: Poor blue collars find the Pubs attractive 'cause they're AGAINST the same things...
Edited on Fri Sep-23-11 07:30 PM by Honeycombe8
they are anti-this, anti-that, and intolerant. Poor blue collars in certain areas also have a history of being anti-government and anti-tax. For any who are old enuf to remember, remember the old Li'l Abner cartoons, where the old man was always toting his shotgun to shoot the "revenuer." (the tax man who'd come around to try to collect taxes sometimes)

Some poor blue collars are rural, with their ancestors being the backwoodsmen such as were in Li'l Abner.

The Republicans promote 2nd amendment gun rights because of their gun-loving base; it's not the other way around, I think.

Regarding #3: My dad is far right and receives both SS and Medicare. I try not to get into political discussions with him...it's pointless, and he'll always be the authoritative dad, if you know what I mean. But he gets fired up and angry at the thought of someone cutting his benefits. I'm not sure how he jives that with his anti-socialism stance and liberal-hating stance, but I expect he views it as him paying into it all his life, so it's his. HE WOULD DEFINITELY BE AGAINST ANYONE WHO WOULD POSSIBLY CUT THE AMOUNT OF HIS SOCIAL SECURITY OR MEDICARE IN ANY WAY. He wouldn't care about raising the eligibility age, since he's past that.

Regarding #4: All I can say is that the far right people in my family really DO dislike blacks and gays, and generally anyone unlike them. I would say "hate" is too strong a word. They veil the dislike in different ways...saying it's because they defraud insurance companies, "they" are lazy, etc., etc. There are always good reasons, they say. And sometimes they have an instance where it IS a black or gay who has done something criminal. Like most bigots, they use that as an excuse to blame the whole group. The "N" word is also not thought of as being wrong, to some. Really. They think it's more that political correctness stuff. They don't mention gays often. Their "dislike" of that group is so far off the charts, that they are careful never to even mention it, since they think I'm liberal and are unsure of my stance, but pretty sure I wouldn't agree with theirs.

Regarding #5: A country where taxes are reeeeeally low, and the various governments are almost nonexistent. To the extent there is government, it should be local and state mainly. There would be no EPA, except MAYBE some really weak, broad stroke regs. There would be few regs for businesses. They would be fine w/o Social Security, I think, IF they hadn't paid into it. I think they would insist on keeping Medicare. It's a split view of things...socialistic health care for THEM, but not for other groups...no government, but they would want that nasty government to maintain roads and hwys and bridges....no taxes to speak of, but they would complain incessantly if they were put on hold a long time when calling a govt office 'cause not enough staff. Go figure.

There are opposing stances taken by Democrats/liberals, too, though, that make no sense. And they have their own stereotypes and dislikes of certain groups based on the actions of some of those groups. The lefters are just not as bad as the righters, and all in all, more tolerant and compassionate and less violent. And fairer.

13. He's still the new pet rock
At least for a little while. His debate performances are having the same effect on him that Bachmann's wild eyes and closeted husband had on Repukes a month or two ago. Why do you think that so many GOP'ers are trying to talk Christie into running? They idolize those who sit on the sidelines, and when they throw their hat in, the warts get exposed.

As for why some poor folks are attracted to the Repukes, it's pretty much about religion, or homophobia, or some such nonsense like that.

When it comes to your other questions, beats me.
