they are anti-this, anti-that, and intolerant. Poor blue collars in certain areas also have a history of being anti-government and anti-tax. For any who are old enuf to remember, remember the old Li'l Abner cartoons, where the old man was always toting his shotgun to shoot the "revenuer." (the tax man who'd come around to try to collect taxes sometimes)
Some poor blue collars are rural, with their ancestors being the backwoodsmen such as were in Li'l Abner.
The Republicans promote 2nd amendment gun rights because of their gun-loving base; it's not the other way around, I think.
Regarding #3: My dad is far right and receives both SS and Medicare. I try not to get into political discussions with him...it's pointless, and he'll always be the authoritative dad, if you know what I mean. But he gets fired up and angry at the thought of someone cutting his benefits. I'm not sure how he jives that with his anti-socialism stance and liberal-hating stance, but I expect he views it as him paying into it all his life, so it's his. HE WOULD DEFINITELY BE AGAINST ANYONE WHO WOULD POSSIBLY CUT THE AMOUNT OF HIS SOCIAL SECURITY OR MEDICARE IN ANY WAY. He wouldn't care about raising the eligibility age, since he's past that.
Regarding #4: All I can say is that the far right people in my family really DO dislike blacks and gays, and generally anyone unlike them. I would say "hate" is too strong a word. They veil the dislike in different ways...saying it's because they defraud insurance companies, "they" are lazy, etc., etc. There are always good reasons, they say. And sometimes they have an instance where it IS a black or gay who has done something criminal. Like most bigots, they use that as an excuse to blame the whole group. The "N" word is also not thought of as being wrong, to some. Really. They think it's more that political correctness stuff. They don't mention gays often. Their "dislike" of that group is so far off the charts, that they are careful never to even mention it, since they think I'm liberal and are unsure of my stance, but pretty sure I wouldn't agree with theirs.
Regarding #5: A country where taxes are reeeeeally low, and the various governments are almost nonexistent. To the extent there is government, it should be local and state mainly. There would be no EPA, except MAYBE some really weak, broad stroke regs. There would be few regs for businesses. They would be fine w/o Social Security, I think, IF they hadn't paid into it. I think they would insist on keeping Medicare. It's a split view of things...socialistic health care for THEM, but not for other groups...no government, but they would want that nasty government to maintain roads and hwys and bridges....no taxes to speak of, but they would complain incessantly if they were put on hold a long time when calling a govt office 'cause not enough staff. Go figure.
There are opposing stances taken by Democrats/liberals, too, though, that make no sense. And they have their own stereotypes and dislikes of certain groups based on the actions of some of those groups. The lefters are just not as bad as the righters, and all in all, more tolerant and compassionate and less violent. And fairer.
