This has not been going well for them. Got a feeling the GOP is going to switch to a new method next election. Like just letting the graybeards in the party have some kind of closed to the public and media convention where they decide who the GOP candidate will be. They are going to pick one and tell that person to keep his mouth shut until after the election. Debates are going to be a thing of the past too.

Something is going to change after this very revealing fiasco.

1. Slightly different take
1852 and the WHIG party.

We might be seeing that

Time will tell.

3. Good point.
In 1854 free soil Whigs and liberal Democrat breakaways formed a new party: the Republican Party. The only third party in American history to supplant one of the big two.

I think we've got a good chance of Blue Dog Democrats and "moderate" Republicans both breaking away and forming a new party in 2013-2014. If they do, I pray it's the Teapublicans that wither and fade away.

5. Breaking off and forming a third party
just doesn't sound like something moderates would do.

6. Blue Dogs are not moderates.
They're conservatives. And "moderate" Republicans are closer in ideology to the Blue Dogs than they are the Teapublicans.

7. I would rather watch reruns of XFL games
I think the next generation Republican primaries will be something like "Reality TV" - or maybe it is already.
