I won't be voting for Obama in the next election.
I will be voting against whatever neanderthal asshat the GOP puts up in opposition.
But I feel so disappointing in Obama that I am not pulling the lever for him, but against his opponent.
Of course that means I also won't be working for his campaign, as I did the last time. And I don't think I am alone.
He might think he can keep disparaging and ignoring his base, and compromise (capitulate) to the Repugs without consequence. Or he might simple not be the man I thought and thinks the GOP are full of great ideas, like keeping the wealthy and bankers happy. It's just hard to find ground for support anymore.

1. So, if you're not voting for Obama nor the GOP candidate, I guess you're hoping for a
3rd. party candidate?

2. Read the damn post
He's saying that he will VOTE for Obama... but it's not really voting FOR Obama, it's voting AGAINST the republicans.

4. Read my post again.
My vote won't be FOR him. It will be AGAINST his opponent. He still gets the vote. But it is unenthusiastically and brings no other effort with it, as it did last time, like traveling to another State to work for him.
Losing the backing of your base is no small thing. It could mean even bigger loses in Congress.

15. Many who hoped for Change feel the say way.
My enthusiasm has waned. I no longer have any hope in significant changes. I realized that he had a difficult task ahead of him, but I never expected him to be so weak on key issues. Even if he was unable to get everything we wanted, he could have set the tone for eventual change in the cases of financial reform, health care and taxes.

This where I see that he failed. He should have made it crystal clear to the citizens that these were key issues and the obstruction by the Republicans was solely in the interest of corporations who own them. He could have said okay, I can't win, but the Republican obstructionists are the sworn enemy of the working class. He should have made it a clear that it was class warfare; the wealthy against the workers and that the wealthy were determined to defeat any measure that didn't further enrich them at the expense of the working class. He totally failed and let the Republicans define the issue.

7. I guess nuance
is lost on some here.

I also assume the loss of the dedication of your base is no big deal either to some.

10. When you've got your ballot in front of you....
you'll probably have, I don't know, 4 or 5 choices for President including Greens and Independents.

Voting for Obama is still voting for Obama.

or trying to convince others to vote for him is still to the campaign (I am talking about all the others who feel as I do).
Do you think the loss of a spirited base has no consequence?

24. You have to understand
that, on one hand, you are of no consequence. On the other hand, it will be ALL your fault if the President is not re-elected.

That's how these things work.

16. There needs to be consequences for actions
and that is necessary to change behavior whether it be politicians or kids. Without consequences and there will never be change.

Sometimes it is necessary to discipline children in ways that create real hardship and inconvenience for parents but the pain is necessary for long term gain. I may not even vote.

So I don't know how many volunteers he's really going to lose. YMMV.

If they weren't ideological then they wouldn't be there.

Unless they were sick of ideology trumping everything else.

29. That's pretty much all you CAN do nowadays.
Vote AGAINST Republicans.

We'll get an alien president before we'll get a progressive one. Conservatives very rarely ingest bullets or ride suddenly malfunctioning planes. This country is just too corporatized and with a Republican president, that cancer will only get worse and more emboldened.

41. Regarding volunteers
In our age of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, 24/7 cable news, robo-calls, online voter registration, etc,
volunteers are still important but they are not as important as they used to be say 20-30 years ago.
