If the story reported by this news station is true, we are surely
the stupidest country in the world. Hope the link works; I'm not real good at this stuff.

1. I should add the story is about our gov sending millions to
restore mosques (sp?) in other countries.

2. Ah, Jared Thomas, that well-known taxpayer advocate
I didn't finish the article as it Jared's lack of credentials jumped off the screen at me. No links, no actual facts, just good ol' yellow journalism that is no doubt only telling half truths. My guess is that this is foreign aid and those receiving that aid are using it to save some ancient sites which just happen to be Islamic in nature.

7. Thanks for your post. I have never heard of Jared, but don't
doubt what you are saying. You're probably right about the foreign aid, but it does seem there would be better ways to know what our foreign aid is actually being spent on. I don't mind helping people, but our own infrastructure needs to be tended to first. Just my opinion.

13. Foreign aid is an important part of our national security...
more so than funding 2+ wars. THAT's where all our money is going. This only amounts to chump change as someone else pointed out on this thread.

14. Jared - Koch puppet
"A talking head in the piece, Jared Thomas, is described as a "taxpayer advocate." It would have been more informative to identify him as the Georgia head of Americans for Prosperity, the Koch-founded astroturf group. Formerly he was Christian Coalition Ralph Reed's campaign manager."

Note that the link goes back to May - not exactly LBN.

3. Protecting the world's artistic treasures was a perfectly reasonable thing to do until we got robbed
Personally I think it still is, but I also think we should not just prosecute the banksters but take back the stolen money. And yes, that would be "interesting" legally, but as doable as, say, the Patriot Act.

5. This type of soft power investment costs a lot less then dropping bombs
or troops on the ground. If this whole program really cost less then a couple of jets then it is obviously money well spent.

Is this posted for satiric purposes, or have you fallen for this frankly inflammatory piece of 'journalism'?

9. Thanks for that. This just seems to me to be where Boner
could start his cuts rather than to start with the elderly in our own country. No wonder we're the laughing stock of the entire world. I hope the email I received goes viral and every old person in this country reads about it. I know in the scheme of things this is not a lot of money to those people in Wash DC, but it's someplace to start instead of where they want to start. I'm becoming more and more convinced that our government cannot be fixed, at least in my lifetime. I'm one of those elderly people.
