Activist Post Deleted Google Erases Popular Alternative News Source?
Source: Before Its News

At mid-day on Friday, September 23, 2011, the popular alternative news blog, ActivistPost.com, was taken offline. Activist Post receives over one million views per month and has been hosted by Google’s Blogger since its founding in June 2010.

“We remain puzzled as to why Activist Post was erased completely by Google,” said chief editor and co-founder Michael Edwards.

“When we tried to load our back-up file into our secondary Blogger account, that was blocked as well,” he added.

It remains unclear whether Google has acted to censor ActivistPost.com for their controversial reporting. Google is becoming somewhat notorious for clamping down on truth and liberty activists, of which Activist Post is known for.

1. Perhaps someone (or many "someones") reported them for content?
That's usually how stuff gets blocked/removed. Often they don't use any judgment, they just take action based on complaints.

The next question you have to figure out is: Who complained?

4. I call bullshit.
"It remains unclear whether Google has acted to censor ActivistPost.com for their controversial reporting. Google is becoming somewhat notorious for clamping down on truth and liberty activists, of which Activist Post is known for."

This sounds like somebody trying to bullshit their way into sounding like martyrs.

Here are a few of the "headlines" that "Activist Post" has been responsible for:

Armed Troops Burn Down Homes, Kill Children To Evict Ugandans In Name Of Global Warming

Martial Law Drill Commences as Economy Begins Descent

Immune System Protects Against Flu, Not Vaccines

Michael Rivero Punches Holes in the Latest Twin Towers Collapse Theory

FDA’s Budget Hike to Keep You Safe

Letter To A 9/11 Truth Skeptic

Grants Issued for Next-Generation Anthrax Vaccine -- Bioterror False Flag Imminent?

Obama Hosts International Debut for Libya’s Racist and Thoroughly Non-Revolutionary Regime

Dr. Mercola Discusses the FDA

Fluoride: Crippling Waters (Documentary)

In other words, great heaping loads of bullshit conspiracy theories.

5. And your point is?
Suppose I published a newspaper full of bullshit. So what? The correct answer to speech in this country has always been seen as more speech, not censorship. That's why we have a First Amendment.

Why should Google set itself up as a content censor if no illegal content is on the website?

Does Google tell people it is going to do that?

And how about giving people at least notice and an opportunity to copy their content, so they can publish it elsewhere, if they choose?

13. If Google took it down. Could be a publicity stunt or could be a technological glitch.
The only point I was trying to make was that it's not Google's place to censor--if indeed Google was censoring.

Crying "Censorship! Censorship!" is second nature to conspiracy theory bullshit artists.

7. Another conspiracy theory...?
Well, what is the likelihood that they took the site down themselves to promote a conspiracy theory? I haven't actually heard of that site, but who knows... anything is possible I guess.

12. If they took down the site themselves, Google can rebut their claims.
Or, it could be a technological glitch.

If Google took it down because of bs content, though, that would be wrong, in my view.

They're back up and operating, spreading more innuendo and conspiracy theories in the name of "news," after attempting to garner PR by crying censorship.

It's a shame more people don't recognize how blatantly manipulative and full of lies some of these places are.

11. I get what you are saying. But the idea of the First Amendment is that,
if you don't censor, you will end up with an aggregate that IS fair and balanced.

And, even better, the good ideas and the truthful statements will ultimately win out.

The truth never wins at Fox precisely because they censor.

In sum, censorship, bad.

24. There was a five hour gap in posts
A few months ago, a technical issue hit several blogs. The more paranoid among them - most, if not all, right wing - screamed 'censorship! They government told them to take us down!' at once. And then they came back when the problem was resolved. And they muttered a vague 'well, it could have been censorship' and hope that everyone would forget how stupid they were.

And this looks just the same. Hoping to get some sympathy and page hits, an unknown blog claims it's being censored. It been back up for over 12 hours, but the blogger hasn't bothered trying to explain what happened. Perhaps they're too embarrassed.

16. Google's mission statement:
Edited on Sat Sep-24-11 06:52 AM by begin_within
"Google’s mission is to organize the world‘s information and make it universally accessible and useful."

What they don't say...

(including copying copyrighted data onto our servers and you can't do a damn thing about it)

(and not including any information that we don't like for some particular reason)

(and we reserve the right to delete blogs at our whim, with no warning or reason given)

(oh and by the way, we remember what searches you typed in years ago. We're watching you!)

(oh and also, search results for a particular search will vary, depending on what computer you use)

(oh and what else are we not telling you? Hmmm... we forget right now.)

Have a nice day!

Then they came for the trade unionists,

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me."

We are at war in case you haven't noticed.
And we are in defense, not offense mode.

29. More likely a technical glitch than hostile action.
Servers barf & go down, network cables get unplugged, equipment fails.

Before screaming and yelling, step back, take five minutes, and maybe it's just a technical problem that the sysadmins are already working on.

27. Maybe the Wall Street occupation? I am not positive, but I think Activist Post --

-- was the site where I found reasonably up-to-date news about Wall Street. They had an assortment of video. Some of it was very unpleasant, of quite violent arrests of seemingly peaceful protesters.

I'm not positive, but I do think that's where I saw it.

That would make some sense, as to why Google might shut them down this week in particular.
