The reason I think E Warren will be first lady POTUS
is that she's not a lifetime pro politician, so she does not speak in gray tones and equivocation. She leads. Second, she will surpass the base mobilization performed by Obama. She gets the traditional base and she will get the millions of single ladies who don't vote. Then watch her go on Univision. Nail meet coffin for GOP and the Latinos. Trust me I'm one of them.
Finally she has seen first hand how crappy advisers can cripple a presidency. She will have new blood, good advisors that the base essentially pre-approves. The third point is speculative on my part. But she's smarter than me and most of you, so I would not be surprised.
Like I've said before. She is dangerous to the GOP as a department head. She is absolutely kryponite to people like jeb bush as a politician when she gets in front of cameras. Warren plus a popular western state governor and it's game over .....

1. Somebody unrecc'd this! I think she makes sense and will
resonate with ALL people who truly listen to her. You may very well be right.

And we the people have pretty much had it with pro politicians - it's not working.

4. Agree
We should look out for someone in their 40s - 50s. It's more practical, and there's better chance that they can connect with some key demographics.

It is the package which is offered that counts.

44. In other contexts, I agree
But, running for a first term has an implied 8 year commitment.

The facts of life matter. Stamina and health decline with age- not just sometimes. Always. It is how we are built.
Some may not think it matters, but I see it as a legitimate concern.

45. As a New Yorker from next door
to her old district ( my rep is Mo Hinchey), I really thought Kristen Gillibrand would be some bland, DLC type.
So as my SO likes to tell me on such occasions, "now don't you feel like a damn fool." I don't know if Gillibrand will be a candidate, but I wouild be very happy with her. She has been very good, although I would still prefer Elizabeth Warren.

58. As a 67-year-old who is beginning a whole new career phase myself,
I think that you underestimate 67-year-olds. It's a fourth career phase for me and I'm loving it!

My husband, in his 70s, began a whole new career as a volunteer and ended up travelling around the world as well to help various groups.

We "seniors" are a lot younger than we used to be. You'll discover that when YOU get here.

6. i think she's phenomenal, and i wish she would become potus soon, BUT
realistically, the power structure in this country is far too strong and far too right-wing to let that happen.

before someone like her has a realistic chance of becoming president, the ultra rich must be weakened significantly, and i don't see how that can possibly happen during the time she'd make a viable candidate.

7. She's certainly become a darling of DU, but I think everyone is jumping the gun a little.
Let's she how she does in her senatorial race against Scott Brown. If she runs a great campaign and wipes the floor with him, she will obviously be in contention for 2016. If it's gaffe-prone and she loses, on the other hand, then not so much. She has a great opportunity to position herself for the future and I hope she makes the most of it.

He was a state senator for 7+ years and a member or the U.S. Senate for 4+ years.

I'm referring to Herbert Hoover and William Howard Taft.

(There have been others who made the jump from high military rank though.)

And I think people who are talking about Warren running for president at a future date are assuming she'll win this Senate run or some future election before that.

9. Elizabeth Warren is great BUT
She alone cannot save America. Nor should we expect her to perform miracles. The GOP will not run and hide at her admittance to the Senate. They will attack, attack, attack. Nothing will stop them from attacking except the american voter.

She is great - but she needs help and support. I think it is premature to elevate aspirations of the presidency when she is just barely beginning to campaign.

10. But don't the visionaries always get shot down in DC politics?
I just don't know if POTUS has the luxury of being a visionary. They die young, if they get there.

Thurgood Marshall was most effective on the courts, MLK in the streets & Al Gore as a speaker.

Sometimes you make more of a difference when you don't deal with White House back doors.

Obama was elected to the Senate in 2004 and was elected President four years later in 2008, Warren would be in an identical position to Obama in that regard but unlike Obama she will also have some executive experience from her work establishing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

As far as we know so far, she's untouchable in terms of consistency and integrity and skeletons in the closet. So all they can do is call her a Commie, and they will, and they are, but that only works on the people who would never vote for her anyway.

50. from 20 points behind to 2 points ahead in a couple of days
This is a demonstration of the power of taking a stand for the people. Real leadership is not just good policy, it's also good politics.

54. I admire her as much as anyone, and would like her to run in 2012
not 2016, but this self righteous fanboydom of telling people the candidate is way smarter than the rest of us, and there fore should not be questioned, is why I cant stand obama anymore. please cut it out.

62. ... but she couldn't get appointed to the position that she REALLY would be best in ...
... obviously there are some at the top of the old boys' behind closed doors power structure that will not allow her anywhere NEAR a seat of true power. Sorry.

64. I agree - Warren will be our first female president.
I saw her speaking on TV just the other day and said to my friend, "Watch closely - you're looking at a future president." God, I hope I was right.

67. She is smart. She is dangerous and because of that...
the TPTB will never allow her close to the White House except to take the tour.

70. She is a leader!
We haven't had a leader in this country since the rethuglicans decided the Clenis was their fastest way to grab power.

She's thoughtful, is excellent at 'framing' and has a path for the future. Count me as a strong supporter.

75. E. Warren
Way to go......You are thinking the way I am thinking. She
would have three years in Senate by time of starting a
campaign for 2016. She won't be touched by dirt. She will have
made very strong statements on her positions, all of which
will be supportive of the middle class and those below it. She
COULD do it. I'd LOVE it.

80. No, I still think it will be Hillary Clinton. In spite of what she says now it wouldn't
surprise me to see her go for the 2016 nomination. After all, she and Elizabeth Warren, whom I admire greatly by the way, would be approximately the same age. If Hillary wants the 2016 nomination I believe it will be hers for the taking.

I realize that there are many at DU who don't regard Clinton as progressive enough. But DU isn't the Democratic Party as a whole and IMO she would be just fine for the vast majority of Democrats.

83. We can hope
I am impressed with what I have seen of her.

Though that leads me in the opposite direction of you. All those are reason I think that she would not be allowed to become POTUS. Then again, my skeptical side told me that they would never allow a mixed race person to be president, much less a leftie, visionary former community worker. I am still not sure that they did.
