http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/region/detroit/detroit-accepting-applications-for-its-senior-emergency-home-repair-program-today.-(WXYZ) - The City of Detroit Planning and Development Department (P&DD) will accept applications for its Senior Emergency Home Repair Program on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The program provides grants up to $12,000 for low-income seniors 65 and older or physically disabled persons 55 and
older to help with roof, furnace, electrical, plumbing and structural repairs at their homes. Participants or their representatives may obtain a pre-screening application form beginning at 9 a.m. in the Riverview Ballroom in the
Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center.
The pre-screening application forms must be submitted by 1 p.m. that day. Once the screening forms are received, P&DD officials will review the applications and award the grants at a later date. In addition, various senior resource service providers and vendors will be on site at Cobo Center to provide information and health services. Applicants must own and occupy the residence for which they seek grant funds and repairs must be of an emergency health or safety-related nature. Grants will only be awarded to individuals who have not received City of Detroit home repair grants in the past. P&DD program officials raised the income limits for senior and physically disabled applicants to 80 percent area median income (AMI),
up from 50 percent AMI in previous years.
