4. Considering that the volume of mail delivered |
|
has dropped 20% in the last 3 years, how can you justify USPS keeping staffing levels static.
Or is it just hope that people will get over this e-mail fad, and go back snail mail?

7. The volume of mail has dropped precipitously because everything in the post-bubble economy has. |

Blaming it on the mail is like the specious notion that people don't read newspapers because they are "old media." They ignore the tripe that the MSM considers fit to print, and the fact that they are all owned by the same five corporations.

9. There are other things to consider. |
|
Look at bulk mail. I'm willing to bet the PO takes a loss on that stuff and they deliver a TON of that crap. Change the rates and maybe that helps.....

13. It's all BS distraction |

The PO is highly competitive (and Fed Ex is one of their contractors). USPS would be in the black now if not for the poison pill advance healthcare funding requirements.

I think I'll take it up again.

6. The line at my sat. am. post office was 45+ minutes |
|
The lobby was full, and there were workers talking "back there" but only one window was open.
I think they'll schedule slow downs like that in an effort to push congress to let them out of their ridiculous pension scheme.
(If you haven't heard, they work under a law that requires them to put up their pension $$ 70 years ahead of time. No one can explain why, but that's why they're bankrupt. It's not true, just like social security.)

8. *sigh* those workers probably weren't window clerks |
|

or may have been on break. They don't have the choice of going to the window and opening another register. It's just not up to them at all.
Not everyone in the office knows how to handle the retail side.
It's becoming quite clear that the general public has absolutely no clue how USPS actually does anything at all.

10. They might have been doing their off-desk work |
|
and, short staffed, have to do it.
Or, as another poster said up thread, they may not be window clerks.
