I ran across this quote in Michael Moore's new book "Here Comes Trouble." I. Was so struck by it I now use it as my signature.
"The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic and a killer." -- D. H. Lawrence

For some reason, I used the word "character" when Lawrence actually used the word "soul." Try that.
When Michael Moore used that quote, he was talking about how 9/11 changed us.

2. Werner Herzog once said |

"I believe the common character of the universe is not harmony, but chaos, hostility, and murder."
I believe this to be true of most humans, but not of the Universe itself.
