1. I hope they keep the rates low.
It will be a long time before I can pay that off.

7. obviously we won...you know what the interest rate is don't you?
it's as close to zero as it can get in real world practical terms

with interest rates at historic lows, it's the idiot who is lending the money and the wise man who is borrowing to improve himself

IF "each" american owes china $3,500 or what have you, well, that's all to the good for us, and all too bad so sad for china

they are actually losing money to inflation on their loan at these interest rates!!!

we are smart to be a debtor at this time, and with these low interest rates seems to me that we have a golden opportunity to take on debt to rebuild infrastructure and do much good in this country...if only we could just ignore the know-nothings who failed math and decided to start a tea party

yes, we won the cold war! we created a global world where our business interests are so entangled we will never destroy the world in nuclear fire -- for some reason, the conservatives are bitter and angry that we saved the planet, but that's the kind of mentality you're dealing with when you're dealing with hate

think about it -- the teabaggers are literally ANGRY that we have saved the world from nuclear destruction, they would rather be dead than involved in some great business deals (in which the usa has the upper hand!) with china\

china is the one getting screwed here, would be interesting to know what THEIR teabaggers and racist haters have to say about us

3. This article on CNN says it isn't China but the Social Security trust fund *rolls eyes*
I remember when there was all of the banter about fears of Japan "owning" the US and buying up all of our real estate. I think that the fears about China will be similarly squelched as time goes by.

4. And we owe a hell of a lot more to the PEOPLE OF AMERICA!
There are SS funds as well as pension funds in US bonds. I am getting tired of this old rhetoric. We owe CHINA MONEY, so what!! We are a sovereign nation, we can print money and it will not come out of my child's pocket. It is time for someone to get real about the deficit. Corporate AMERICA is selling our national assets to CHINA etc... It is they who are shipping jobs overseas and they are encouraging American FREE TRADE ZONES, which allow a sovereign nation like CHINA TO COME into our country, and build warehouses, homes and businesses on US soil without taxation to the US GOVT. Then these projects become sovereign soil, like the UN. I am trying to wrap my head around WHO is supposed to enforce laws in these so called sovereign territories?? Who is paying the bills for the roads etc.. to ship their goods??? Should we really be concerned about the WORLD COURT and WTO for the policies going forward on these projects?? That is my concern. DEFICIT, NO. American FREE TRADE ZONES, you betcha.

8. Each U.S. citizen owes the Social Security Trust Fund about $8,000
Edited on Sun Sep-25-11 11:13 PM by madville
As bad as China might get screwed holding US debt, we are screwing ourselves twice as bad. Think it will ever get paid back? Maybe we can have Social Security recipients pay the Social Security Trust Fund back with a portion of their Social Security checks ;)
