Open msg. from KY Att. Gen. Jack Conway: Big banks causing our economic collapse |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-26-11 09:51 AM by Cal33
are now pressuring all 50 states to give them legal immunity from accountability in future investigations.
Hi, this is Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway. I wanted to make sure you heard about an important issue.
The same Wall Street banks whose irresponsible actions led to our nation's economic collapse are now pressuring all 50 states to give them legal immunity. The banks want to block any criminal or civil accountability for actions that have yet to be investigated.
Attorneys General from Delaware, Minnesota, Nevada and New York have been fighting back. Today, I want to make a clear statement in support of Wall Street accountability and against immunity for banks -- and I ask you to join me on this statement:
"Today's economic crisis was caused by Wall Street acting improperly. Every American has paid the price -- with families losing their homes, investors losing their money, and many Americans losing their jobs. There should be absolutely no criminal or civil immunity given to banks for activity that has not yet been investigated."
If you agree, add your voice to this statement by clicking here -- so America hears our voices together.
Frankly, all elected leaders owe it to their constituents to take this position. If we speak up together, more and more of them will. Sign here.
Today, by adding my voice to this issue, along with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, we are adding momentum to the fight for Wall Street accountability.
These next couple weeks are critical. Key meetings and discussions will determine if Wall Street banks get immunity -- regardless of what they may or may not have done.
Now is the time for the public to stand up. Click here to add your voice to the above statement today -- then, tell your friends.
Together, we can hold Wall Street accountable to Main Street. Thanks for being a bold progressive.
-- Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway

19. Kentucky is very Democratic in state and local elections |
|
It's only red on the federal level. As a matter of fact, it's expected that Dems will sweep the entire slate of constitutional offices on the ballot in November 2011.

28. That is right. I think that KY could still go blue if we reach out and connect with the voters. |

12. Actually I fully support granting the banks immunity and no I am not kidding. |
|
Of course the immunity needs to be limited to the bank itself and not the people who work for the bank.

16. He should have been Senator Conway. I still can't believe Rand Paul won. |
|
This is a good man and a true voice of the people of Kentucky. They made a mistake not electing him to Congress.

20. Yes, Conway is generally good |
|
But he made some blunders on the campaign, for instance personally signing off on that nasty, distracting Aqua Buddha ad. I met him just before election day, and at the time at least, he wasn't the most engaging figure personally. And he sometimes pandered to the fundies down here, such as saying he opposed the building of a mosque near Ground Zero.
Conway's young, so he's not finished yet. Glad to hear him talking this way. I'd like to see him run against McConnell when he's up again in 2014.
And as a previous poster pointed out, Kentucky seems to find great pleasure in consistently sending Democrats to the state capital and Republicans to Washington. Plenty of cognitive dissonance down our way :)

why hasnt he indicted any banks for criminal actions??? robosigning?? fraud???? his petition is just an attempt to raise money. if he really meant it there would be criminal charges against the banks as a corporation... and yes as top prosecutor in kentucky how many criminal cases has he filed against the banks?????

30. Kentucky is a small state. You won't find any top exec. of any big bank headquartered |
|
there. Conway has no authority outside of Kentucky. So, what are you trying to say?

31. My hope lies in the fact that "Occupy Wall Street" is already becoming a national movement.. |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-27-11 10:59 AM by Cal33
Remember how the Vietnam War protesters in the 1960s played a huge role in stopping the wasteful war? Wasteful both in young human lives and national wealth. It took a long time to grow from a few protesters into a national movement. But grow they did, and they succeeded.
"Occupy Wall Street" is already spreading to 27 cities within a week. Looks as though this movement is spreading faster -- with the help of the Internet. The protesters of the 1960s are the parents and grandparents of today's youngsters of "Occupy Wall Street." And these youngsters are carrying the genes of their parents and grandparaents. They, too, will succeed in bringing down the greedy and corrupt corporate execs. of Wall Street.

34. To quote Jack Kennedy |
|
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable."
If these guys try to protect themselves from jail, they will find themselves facing the tumbrel and guillotine - as it has ALWAYS been.
They would be much better advised to cooperate with a few prosecutions, and avoid mob executions.
