Insult to injury. Troy Davis' body sent to Atlanta at familiy's expense
to state crime lab. Family has to pony up costs of trip to Atlanta and trip back home, per state law.

Unspeakable.

2. Most prisons have burial grounds, and if the family wants
a burial in a different place, they would have to pay. Perhaps most families do not mind having the person buried on prison grounds..

I think someone will take care of the expenses for them if they cannot afford it. Al Sharpton comes to mind.

This family is pretty high profile now, so they will probably get financial help.

Nothing will make them feel better, but not having him buried in prison will certainly make them feel a little less awful.

17. This family has support all over the world.
On the night Troy was executed, there were people demonstrating outside American embassies.

The thing that bothers me is the gratuitous piling on of pain and stress on an already grieving family. That's just barbaric.

4. Why would the body have to go to the State Crime Lab?
If an autopsy is mandatory, maybe the Justice system in GA really is stupid enough not to know what killed the guy, the State usually has to pay to move the body at least to the site of the nearest M.E.'s office. The trip to burial location I don't know.

7. Everything about this case is absolutely revolting.
That poor family. Not just this needless death, but his 22-year incarceration are a crime. The guilty are the ones on the outside!

9. Reprehensible!
What a horrible, horrible state. They have a long history of inhumane laws.

One of the remarkable facts connected with the government of nations claiming the highest civilization, hardly more than a century ago, was the brutality of their laws. Many crimes, comparatively trifling in their nature, were punishable with death. One of the most cruel of these oppressive laws was that which permitted a man to throw into prison a neighbor who was unable to pay the money he owed. If a poor tenant fell ill, and could not pay his landlord, the latter could have him flung into jail and kept there until the debt was paid. http://colonialancestors.com/ga/23Georgia.htm
