Excellent Historical Footage between 1900 and 1914.
I just watched this and found it fascinating. I think they did an excellent job of documenting what it was like politically in America between 1900 and 1914. I saw some things in common with what we are struggling with today in terms of massive power brokers.
Anyway, I thought some might find it interesting. I was amazed at the film quality and the capturing of events from back then. It's avail. on Netflix Streaming and DVD.

"Project XX: The Innocent Years (1957)"

"Project Twenty: The Innocent Years
The relatively calm years between 1900 and 1914 represented a time of tranquility and opulence in America, before World War I removed any carefree virtue that was left to be found. Narrated by Alexander Scourby, this documentary provides a charming retrospective look at what life was like during those 14 years leading up to the chaos of war time. Features President Teddy Roosevelt, the Mexican Revolution, Prohibition and more."

2. Yeah, era of child labor, poor working conditions, no meat inspections...
virtually no unions, no Workman's comp, no osha, scarlet fever, small pox, no anti-biotics, shall I go on?

the "good old days" or "innocent" in this case, were generally only "innocent" for the rich whites.

The poor always had it hard. There never was an "innocent time" for the poor.

6. Oh, thank you so much
I noticed there were three other Project-XX movies as well: 1914-1929, The Thirties, and 1945 to the Korean war. I put them all in my queue.

to me. I'll put these others in my queue too. One can read about all of this in books, but the video footage was excellent as was the narrative.

10. And now Ken Burns has done a 3 part
documentary on prohibition which airs Sunday through Tuesday. What perfect timing. I'm going to start with the Project XX films and finish off with Ken Burns. Should make for a fun and informative week.

11. Here's another one I came across by accident, not the same series, but interesting.
"The Atomic Cafe"

"The Atomic Cafe
(1982)
A chilling and often hilarious reminder of Cold War-era paranoia in the United States, this film artfully compiles newsreel footage, government archives, military training films and 1950s music into a singular cinematic experience. Also covered are Washington's Communist witch hunt, the historic trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, and the sagely prophetic comments of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Cast: Pierce Rafferty, Kevin Rafferty
Format: DVD and streaming"

7. Those years were very turbulent for the labor movement. I find the description of those years in
that blurb quite a ways off from reality. Many of the gains -- and many of the small first steps of change -- that were made during that time were completely wiped out during WWI.

I haven't seen any of these films so I shouldn't comment. But that blurb really struck a wrong note with me.

this one you'll notice one thing immediately, not one person of color (I did not see), and the opulence of the ruling class. From a historical perspective it was interesting to see IMO. What immediately bothered me when watching them was that this, IMO, is what the republicans want to return to ...
