Traveling to help a fellow state |
|
A friend mentioned to me the other day that he wanted to get away to Vermont, which would be a great idea in the coming weeks as we're in Mass., and Vermont was hit very badly with floods and other consequences of the storms and hurricane watch.
I think that's a great idea for everyone, just to get out for even one day to visit either another part of your state or a state close-by. It would certainly help with tourism in those areas hard hit by natural (and man made) disasters, and get to know people who have lived through even harder times than ourselves. I enjoy sharing some of my time and thoughts with like-minded people, and it offers a different characterization than what we might have installed in our minds.
For us, Vermont is one such "frontier." I've been in all parts of New England, but Vermont remains a little more of a mystery, with its more rural setting, and with a very progressive political face.
Some areas of the country have been ravaged by different events, and have had their tourist base go elsewhere, but right after a catastrophe is the time they need to have help the most. Whether it's Joplin Missouri, New Orleans, Vermont, Florida or any one of the many states that have been hurt, we need to find ways of helping that are outside of the government, and re-establish kinship with those places.

I'm in NY, not far from Vermont, and we got hit, but nothing like Vermont... I have friends there and places I'm familiar with are devastated. They need all the help they can get. Vermonters are wonderful people and it's a beautiful state. I spent my summers there as a kid... :yourock:
