"My doctor doesn't have to pay for his own surgical instruments"
Best line from the education nation program on MSNBC yesterday. I was spoken by a teacher.

1. That's true. But what do teacher's pay in malpractice insurance?
Edited on Mon Sep-26-11 09:49 PM by woodsprite
My OB/GYN said that his malpractice insurance is approx. 70K per year IF he keeps his full-time practice. If he wants to go part-time in retirement (which should be right around the corner for him) and assist in teaching, tack on a 50K rider.

Not saying that it's right the teacher has to pay for supplies, but just saying that there are costs both ways. A doc is definitely more financially able to pay the extra costs incurred in the profession.

3. teachers don't usually kill people with bad surgery. doctors do.
That's why their insurance is high.

2. I wish I could afford health insurance for my children on my teacher salary.
Not to sound jealous, but I would not be complaining if I could afford to pay that kind of money for anything. It is all I can do to pay $100.00 a month in union dues (my malpractice protection). Tonight I had to explain to my daughter that she won't be able to get the blood tests her doctor ordered because she will be uninsured after September 30th. The 3% tax from Rick Scott combined with very low pay with no raise in years has taken a toll on every teacher I know.
