If Christie's weight is fair game because he might a candidate
...then please restrict your comments to clinical, factual statements.

If you are so suddenly concerned with the health of a Republican candidate, then your posts
will concern his cardiovascular heath, his cholesterol, the stress on his joints, the health
of his liver and gallbladder, and so forth.

"Fat fuck" is just one invective precluded by the above suggestion.

6. His political operatives will work the sympathy angle very skillfully--
getting folks to defend him against attacks on his fatness and stupid fat jokes on TV. They'll build some support that way. There are millions of dieters.
To political operatives, that's golden.

They can also keep a record of the insults and stir up controversy over this or that example of anti-fat taunting in order to distract the media from discussions of Christie's many policy failures.

7. His health is fair game as long as it could create a possibility that he might
not be able to finish his term. It was a concern to me with McCain, also, and would be a concern if there was a health issue with a democrat.

13. That's not how they use these issues
Edited on Tue Sep-27-11 01:25 PM by Johonny
in politics lately the best way to make it fair game is to make polls and ask questions if it is fair game. See how republicans use the presidents race. You talk about it a lot, asking over and over again is it fair to use it, should they use it, will they use it. Now you can always conclude no. But you see you don't ever kill the issue and tomorrow another version of the question will appear. You talk about his race without ever "really" talking about it. That is how Christie's weight will be used. For example, the past 24 hrs on the DU. In modern politics it will be fair game and will be used exactly as it is being used right now.

14. I don't care what any of the Republicans look like....
what they weigh, whether they are male or female, whether they have even minor health issues, or what religion they are. Every single one of them is insane and not only insane but the bad kind of insane that can hurt this country and it has. If they were the other kind of insane it might be ok, but they aren't they are the selfish, mean spirited, kind of crazy.

24. If you don't care why are you talking in a thread about it
if all the people that say it isn't fair game, why are they creating polls and threads. People defend his weight, people making fat jokes. The people that want this issue out there don't care what side you are on. They care, that you care about it at all. That's how the game is played. They get you talking about it. They get you thinking about it. Every time you see Christie you think about his weight. Is it and issue is it not? They keep the question open, day after day after day... Is Sarah Palin a real candidate, Is Obama's race an issue, Is Bachmann's headaches an issue, Is Romney's religion an issue? The goal isn't to tell a lot of fat jokes, the goal is to get and keep people defending it, attaching it, ect... day after day.

IF they didn't get us talking about this crap we might protest wall street or something:)

For four straight elections! Hell you could trace this negative campaigning and attack the messenger shit back to Raygun. I think if we throw it back in their faces a bit it might send 'em packing. Now you could argue that this falls under "two wrongs don't make a right" but when have these idiots ever backed up their logic and arguments with real facts?

We're all going to rationalize petulant behavior at one time or another...

I believe you're predicating your own, personal ethics on the actions of someone/a group you find unethical-- there's simply no logic in that in this context.

If they fail to use logic and facts, do we then follow suit?

I'm really sick of the thinly-veiled bigotry masquerading as "concern". Even more, I am grateful I do not have to deal with those who believe their name-calling and bullying is acceptable IRL.

Thanks, Dreamer Tatum.

I will stay away from the subject. Though I would like to think were I in his shoes I could control my weight better. I imagine being governor means he doesnt shop at the grocery store and probably has a lot of his meals prepared for him. That would be a huge plus for anybody dieting.

28. Obama smokes. Where are all the criticisms here in DU
Edited on Tue Sep-27-11 03:17 PM by sabrina 1
where smokers are treated worse than genocidal maniacs by, hypocritically, often those who are loyal supporters of the president? If Christie smoked apparently it would be a major crime because you are all 'worried about his health and how he might no make it through his term of office'! Who do all of you who support this kind of hypocrisy think you're kidding.

But practically speaking, what would be accomplished by pointing out that he is overweight? How does his weight affect his policies? Does anyone think that people on the Left who are always lecturing others about 'bigotry and prejudice' are not going to be called hypocrites when they forget their own 'standards' for political purposes? And rightfully so.

Whose minds will be changed by pointing out what is obvious to people who can see? They love Limbaugh, so clearly the most likely Christie voters don't care about his weight. It is a losing tactic, and shows only hypocrisy. And fear of taking him on on the issues.

I can't keep up with the constantly changing principles of the left. I thought we were better than the right, but it is increasingly clear to me that the charge that both parties are just the mirror image of each, may actually be true.

"it is increasingly clear to me that the charge that both parties are just the mirror image of each, may actually be true...."

We often hold others to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. But that's an indictment that lies wholly within the individual rather than the party platforms.

Democrats and Republicans are two completely different animals... please don't let this grade school, petulant taunting engaged in by the Vocal Minority convince you otherwise.
