Christie
Watched him last night on C-SPAN. I can see why Republicans and maybe Indies would like him. He seems intelligent and
well spoken. He doesn't talk specifics - but he does have an air of honesty, straight-forwardness completely lacking in W2 and Mittens.

I am glad he isn't running because I think he might be hard to beat, even with all the crazy, rude, and temper-driven
displays they've been airing of him. If he ended up winning and with a Republican congress, we would be
really screwed. The American people would be really screwed.

1. He would dismantle American progress if given the chance. He just hides it well.

5. The PTB are supposedly looking for an "Idea Man" and he seems
like he has really thought about things, intellectually. Stark contrast with dipshit Perry.

I have to give him credit for one thing...he's not ego-maniacal enough to think he knows
enough to be president yet.

That is what always struck me as insane about Palin. She didn't even have a second thought.
"Sure, I'll be VP." A sane person would think, "Whoa, I don't have a clue."

I liken it to a first year med-student who is asked to do a heart transplant and they
say "Sure!"

9. When he was high on his ego horse he showed his true bully nature against his own citizens.
We know he hates unions, he hates the poor, he hates the middle class, he hates the unemployed, he hates seniors, he hates Labor.

20. Yep, and this recent nice guy act he sometimes does would fade quickly. To me,
he's already shown his true colors over and over, and you stated them quite well! Agree!!!

while seeming less radical than some of the other Republican governors, he's with the program, especially bashing unions and attacking public education.

7. Interesting..Do you think he's got some skeletons? Or
do you think he's genuinely concerned that he's "not ready." He also
says he won't have a wife if he runs. Wonder what she has against the idea.

I have read insiders say Jeb could never be prez because of his skeletons.
He also doesn't want to take such a huge salary cut.

10. He may well be. Of course to be far right on social issues will kill you in New Jersey
He's opposed to legal abortion but not vehemently so--now of course you cannot be a pro-life activist and get elected governor in New Jersey--so he has to be careful here. He's moderate on gay rights issues. He's also on record as believing that humans contribute to climate change--not a popular position in GOP land. Of course he could do like the Mittster and flippety floppin all over the place on these issues but that would certainly spoil his blunt spoken, straight talker image.

14. thanks for the analysis. BTW, what's up with Rudy? did
he give up. He always scared me from the point of being a strong opponent because he
is so quick-witted and has great debate skills.

Geez, can't believe how some of these people seem so much closer to normal now, given the current
nutcases.

17. Rudy got blown out of the water in 2008, Still gets mileage out of 9/11
It was never going to happen anyway. Once people got to know him they were going to find out why New Yorkers were ready to run him out of town on a rail until he became a hero on September 11. Seriously, the thought that the born again brigade was going to embrace a New York City mayor with several ex wives running around, a couple of gay best friends and a rather disturbingly large collection of pictures of him in drag was nuts to begin with.

11. The very reasons you see him as a threat will prevent him from gaining their nomination
Since 2008 the Republicans have created a mold their candidate has to fit within that leaves little room for independent thought. Imagine if the Democrats demanded every potential candidate be staunchly pro choice, agnostic, 100% anti gun, non-white, and gay.

Even though those are all basic platforms of the progressive movement, requiring total conformity would leave out the most brilliant minds and electable candidates. Such is the republican problem created by pandering more and more to intolerant extremists. Even McCain had to publicly alter his ideals to fit within the standards, and it's much more stringent now.

It's with my tongue in cheek I observe that Christie will have a difficult time fitting within the constraints of any mold. Too bad for him.

15. I guess as a Democrat, we should be happy a moderate republican
won't fit that mold, and won't get the nomination. But, unless the economy picks
up, I find myself hedging and thinking if the very worst happens, and Obama
loses, who would be the least worst.

I agree totally..there'e so much polarization among people now there is no
middle road, no compromise at all. But, the issues are so black and white too. Hard
to find a middle.

12. Republicans would have to win sixty plus seats in the Senate as well
I doubt Democrats in the Senate would go along with a Republican president to pass Republican policies as they have with Obama...

13. Christie is the candidate of the wealthy establishment Wall Street republicans--the tea partiers
would reject him and right now they are the ones who count in a GOP primary.

16. But, we can't underestimate those "wealthy establishment Wall
Street Republicans" who helped rig Kerry out of a win. I bet if Perry continues to lead,
they will be leaking mud like crazy

19. Don't Count Me Out Yet...
this is Christie's window, 2012 is his year. In 4 years, he'll have Jeb, Rubio and other smart Rs to contend with. My money is on him running and if he can get past the tea-tanic party, he will beat Obama.
