REPUBLICS, not Republican. This is your new language to spread.
Frank Luntz and his cadre of Orwellan language shock troops have been very effective in guiding the political language to their advantage; the most recent being the pervasive change of "Democratic" to "Democrat." I hear "Democrat" now everywhere...even by supposedly liberal commentators. The change has been so effective.

So, I propose we try the same to highlight the technique used against us. When people ask why we are referring to the Republican Party or Republican ideals as "Republic Party" or "Republic ideals," we are then provided the opportunity to explain the change and how it was prompted by the stupid change of Democratic to "Democrat."

For this to be effective, we need to spread the word and use the term CONSISTENTLY. The simple rule is when the word Republican should be use, just substitute "Republic". For instance, "I really dislike the methods the Republics are using to gum up Congress," or "The Republic Party owes the American people an explanation," etc.

WE CAN DO THIS. Remember, this isn't just a tit-for-tat. We should use the change to highlight the technique the Republics use and provide an opportunity to educate the larger public about the power of language in the political sphere.

Go get those Republics!

J out.

6. Great to see that I'm in good company. The "rise above it" types have NO CLUE.
If our party is to command respect and political gain, we must FIGHT and use their tactics against them.

I fail to understand the "rise above it" Democratic types and their insistence that we engage in reasoned debate, when that has proven over the past 30-40 years to be completely INEFFECTIVE.

2. I think we can do better, We don't need to be name callers..
We need to lead by example and name calling is quite juvenile and crude....Let's try to make America a better place, not sink to their level..

4. And, it's this sort of attitude that explains why the Republics KICK OUR ASS.
Politics is less about using the frontal lobes and more about the amygdalae. Fear/emotion guide political force these days. Trying to reason with those who do not use it is futile.

Rising above it is no longer a viable option. Sorry, this is just the cold hard truth.

You just keep on being "above it all," while the country and our party sinks into oblivion.

I choose to FIGHT on their terms. I choose to show STRENGTH. I choose to bully and belittle what should rightly be put down.

5. Professionally, I'll call them the official name of their party...

But, on the day to day level, I would repeatedly state that there is a reason why Republicans are now so commonly known as RETHUGLICANS. A thug is a thug is a RETHUG...

7. Too harsh, but I agree. The change should be on the same order as what they did to us.
Republics gets the point across and is more likely to be adopted in the wider media.

8. "Republics" doesn't have any connotation to me...
Edited on Thu Sep-29-11 10:37 AM by hlthe2b
We are, after all a democratic republic... Seems to me, that Republicans would be happy to embrace the nickname.

If we are to "stoop to their level," the reason why they love "Democrat" party is that they can put stress on the "rat" part. :eyes:

(Maybe this makes the case for us not stooping to their level?)

13. That might work. But, still the need for consistency would be necessary.
I still think Republics is the simpliest to implement and the one most likely to get into the media sphere.

15. I prefer "Grand Old Party" dripping with sarcasm.
It solidifies the meme that they represent the wealthy. Also that their ideas are old.
