You just can't make this stuff up...

http://www.nbcbayarea.com/blogs/press-here/android-app-is-your-son-gay-130719788.html

Rather than just asking your son if he's gay, there's an app you ask, instead.

In Google's Android app store there's a download called "Is Your Son Gay?" -- and it's only 99 cents. In 20 easy questions, parents can determine their son's sexualtiy. The app has, predictably, caused an internet furor.

"Does he like sports?" "Does he like diva music?" "Are you divorced?"

Eliza Byard, executive director of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Educational Network, denounced the app with, "The questions in this app are horrendous stereotypes that would be completely laughable if they weren't so dangerous."

:wtf:

We can hardly wait for the companion app for daughters: "Does she have cats?", "Does she drive a Subaru?", "Does she do her own remodeling?", etc. :sarcasm:

1. More women will use it to find out if their husbands are gay than their sons. nt

3. I always found that funny. A close friend of mine in high school was gay and the stud athlete...
at our school. He told me our senior year of HS, but really didn't tell anyone else. By the end of senior year, some people were talking about him being gay but nobody believed it. How could you be gay and be a 200lb star linebacker? Funny how stereotypes work sometimes.

12. In many Ancient Greek city-states the elite millitary units were for gays only.

I believe the "Gay = Effeminate" thing started with the Romans. Caesar was accused of being bisexual and had a reputation as a "pretty boy" and a Fashionista.

20. That's kind of an oversimplification / misunderstanding...
You're probably thinking of the Spartans, where military training usually involved pairing a young boy with an older soldier who would teach him, and the two would bond, often involving some kind of sexual or at least erotic relationship.

4. I dig sports, and I get the gay thing all the time
most recently from a fabulous and lovely activist/beer enthusiast. :( It just must come with the territory.

5. No worries. My gay "boyfriend" says he loves watching football.
He doesn't understand one iota of the game but he loves to watch.

You shouldn't need an app to love one member of your family just like every other member of your family.

7. It's not just for parents. This app will also be very useful for...
The bullies, who have a simple way to identify more targets.
The bullied, who can use it to alter their behavior & appearance in a desperate attempt to remain invisible to the bullies.
(regardless of the ludicrous claims that it can identify one's sexual orientation)

While I believe the app was conceived in jest, it's effects will be devastating.

11. Here, I finished it and made it much simpler:
Do you like having sex with people of your own gender? You may be Gay.
Do you like having sex with people of the opposite gender? You may be Hetero.
Do you like having sex with either or both? You may be Bisexual.

Do you give a shit which gender other people like to have sex with? You're probably a bigoted asshole.

23. You know, this ball of crap question annoys me.
Edited on Thu Sep-29-11 08:10 PM by Aerows
Why in the hell is it so scary if your son or daughter is gay? I know that is the OP's point, but the fact that someone out there made this app pretty much clarifies that there is a reason to ask that question.

Why in the hell is it a problem if people are gay?

I want to ask everyone who has a problem with gay people if they are harboring homosexual tendencies that they can't deal with themselves that question every single time it comes up - because it is usually a very valid question.

24. It's scary to loving non-bigoted parents because it surprises and breaks an illusion
of fairy tale family & grandchildren, but they generally get over it quickly and lovingly.

It's also scary to loving bigoted parents because they believe it's a sin, or an abomination, or horrible in general, and socially a shame to them, or reflection on their parenting. Some of them get over it lovingly, and that's progress.
