Immigration law in Alabama to be enforced, toughest in US
Police in Alabama are getting ready to enforce what is considered by many as the toughest immigration law in the United States.

Beginning on Thursday, authorities can question people suspected of being in the country illegally and hold them without bond, and officials can check the immigration status of students in public schools, Gov. Robert Bentley said.

Those two key aspects of Alabama's new law were upheld by a federal judge on Wednesday.

The governor said parts of the law take effect immediately.

1. I wonder what will make the LEO suspect someone is in the country illegally?

The colour of their skin maybe? The language they speak? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaah I'm sure they'll be "suspecting" tons of white-folk, you know, just in case they are here illegally from say, I dunno, Belgium or Hungary...:sarcasm:

The "hold without bond" is a nice touch dontcha think?

Do the coppers get to go into Alabama schools and arbitrarily demand proof of legal residency? Does this also count for pre-schoolers and kindergartners?

This law is an abomination and needs to be appealed and struck down as quickly as possible...

2. So- if someone looks "foreign" or is overhead speaking a language other than English,
they can be asked for their papers? The article doesn't mention how potential illegals are to be identified, apart from employment or education applications.
