Can We Talk? About the awful propaganda out there against Obama?
Edited on Thu Sep-29-11 12:40 PM by leftyladyfrommo
Does anyone else check out the Drudge Report? I do. I want to know what the other side is doing.

Their coverage of the democratic party and this democratic president is just god awful. They print every horrible picture they can find - of Obama, of the Clintons, of Michele Obama.

Today there is coverage of some signs someone put up of Obama in a diaper - Change Me, I Stink.

Am I the only one who finds this terribly offensive? Despicable? I hate it.

No president of this country should have to endure this kind of abuse. It's racist and just plain awful. And there must be a whole lot of people out there who think it's just terribly funny.

I'm an unapologetic Obama supporter. I think he has just an impossible job and is doing the very best he can. And I doubt very much that anyone else would be doing any better. And the political cartoons aren't any better. Makes me sick.

18. I don't remember anyone putting * in diapers...Vitter did
that to himself. We may have mocked *, but it was only showing what he did and said...You know..."most imports come from other countries" "I know how hard it is to put food on your family"...trying to escape through a locked door...fooled twice by the same door. But no watermelons in the yard and monkey faces and all the other despicable jokes.

5. So now it's politically correct to just be awful?
The concept of a whole nation of Rush Limbaughs is appalling.

8. Don't get how you arrive at that conclusion.
P.C???

Try First Amendment, AND my right to avoid reading/listening to offensive items as well as that of others to 'counter' such, in whatever ways they chose.

4. I've seen baby-diaper photos of Bush, Bush as chimp, Bush as pinhead
It's immature, certainly, but it's nothing new either. And it didn't start with Obama.

and lied to about all the "hope and change" he would bring.

12. Obama is up to the job - for the 80% plus of us regular Dems/liberals
its the fringe nuts in the country waging the propaganda campaigns.

10. This IS the Drudge Report we're talking about
No surprise. Matt Drudge is also a huge race baiter. When I do read his site, the most amusing things are his "Chicagoland" links which always details crime in Chicago. As if Chicago is the only area in the country with crime. And he goes to great lengths to try and connect Obama to it. It's beyond ridiculous. He shouldn't be taken seriously.

11. It's always been this way.
Anti-Federalist newspapers took a few unfair jabs at President Washington. They were only held back by the residual glow of his heroics during and after the war. But once he was out of office and John Adams was President, no holds were barred.

13. Yep. And, there jabs weren't exercises in marshmallow throwing.
And, the Federalists weren't shy about doing the same towards Jefferson and Madison.

14. I agree
It does sound too like the general deterioration in culture we see in the US. But I doubt they'd go that far to a Republican or a white President.

16. Obama should not have to endure such abuse and racism.
On the other hand, Dubya DID deserve every bit of the abuse, derision, and disrespect directed at him. I will not sign onto a "no U.S. president" argument.

19. What is really sick is to lump progressives who criticize Obama with those on the right who
criticize Obama.

They want Obama to fail and the progressives who criticize him want him to be more of a success progressively speaking.

20. As distasteful as that is,
it is protected under the First Amendment.

And even though Bush tried his damnedest to silence Democrats, we had plenty to say about him.

My suggestion would be to handle it like President Obama handles it; he ignores it and goes on about his business.

23. Protected speech
Basically politicians are fair game.

Invective and polemics are common in political speech. Common from the beginning of political speech.

The answer is more and better speech. Including better insults.
