72. I Completely Agree
I'm old, I'm tired, and if they want to get that debt burden off their shoulders, we need to get those taxes back up on the rich. All they've used the money for is to further corrupt our political system, buy both parties, all the media, crank up 20+ republican think tanks, buy up voting machine companies, and cement their fascist holds on our country. So I say put it back up to 90 percent on all dollars of any kind, over 1 million a year, at least until we pay off the debt.

“No dictator, no invader, can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.”

63. It is up. Working 100%. HERE ARE THE NUMBERS FROM EW
Someone down at Occupy Wall Street noted that a bunch of food trucks are gathering around the protest. Four of them would be able to take orders for the protesters. So if you want to feed those trying to hold the banksters accountable, call one of these food trucks.

Lemongrass Grill – Thai – 212.809.8038

Alfanoose – Middle Eastern – 212.528.4669

Toloache Taqueria – 212.809.9800

Liberatos Pizza – 212.344.3464

38. Is there a way to KNOW that the money you give to your church gets to charity?
Is there a way to know that the food you drop in the bin for the food drive actually goes to the hungry? Is there a way to KNOW that the Salvation Army bell ringer gives the money you put in the pot to the proper collection system and that system helps the people it is supposed to help? Heck, for that matter, do you KNOW the driver in the oncoming car will stay on the proper side of the road?

No. There isn't. Sometimes, you just have to take a leap of faith to support things you find valuable to you as a person and a member of a civil society.

But for many people, not KNOWING means doing nothing. And that is part of the reason we are in the current mess we're in.

13. What a wonderful way to state what is happening.
And yet, I just read, on another thread, a comment that it was " too inconvenient" for some people to stop patronizing the TBTF banks.

Immediately I thought of the 2 women who were "inconveniently" pepper sprayed in NYC, and the thousands who are marching in cities across this nation and across the globe.

hafta to admit, my blood pressure went up.

I learned that change comes from pain and suffering. Being inconvenienced is what it takes!

People who are willing to be arrested, to be beaten and bloodied are the ones who make change happen.

64. I've loved all of your posts on this all the way through!
The thing is, to be blunt Americans should always see more power with we the people than with them, the hired temporary help. Elected officials are temp workers serving the people, any power they have or accomplishment they take part in belong to the people, for without the people, they do not have jobs, nor power, and they accomplish nothing of value.
Of course, once a President announces that some minorities are not 'sanctified by God' that person is clearly not on my side in the way Occupy Wall Street is on my side. Hard to argue that 'God in the Mix' Obama is doing much for my equal marriage rights, which he thinks are an affront to his invisible pal, Harvey the Talking Deity who tells him that only straights like Newt have that magical 'sanctity'.
Tell me what the word 'sanctity' means in the context of civil law, and we can talk.
Occupy Wall Street is doing more for us than any highly compensated political professional is doing, and they are also not doing the harm that the politipros are doing to us. Occupy Wall Street did not tell me to look the other way at Bush crimes or was it 'look forward'? They did not hand billions to Goldman, while playing skin flint with children and the elderly. The elected Temps did that.
Oh, perhaps out of respect I should call them Mr Elected Temp? Elected Temp, sir?

70. Just a short side trip - sanctified means to become holier/better. Thus
in the context of civil rights it SHOULD mean giving more civil rights to all people. Unfortunately, you are correct - it is not used that way.

96. Absolutely!
My little complaint is that the kudos to the citizens there, the tiny number representing the full 99% of the nation, couldn't have been expressed in terms that didn't simultaneously try to insult the elected officials who also serve.

But, to be sure, neither can really be effective without the other, so I prefer to be grateful to both types and would hope that we can all lend our support to both.

I'm 65. It's people of my generation that took their future away. That's why they are in the streets. I don't feel I did much knowingly to take their future away but I feel I need to do something to make sure they have as much a chance at life as I did.

58. K&R! But there aren't enough of them.
They must be joined by older disgruntled Americans.

82. You've got that right!
These patriots who are protesting on Wall Street are amazing. Wall Street has been leading this country around by the nose for far too long, and I sure hope that these protesters signal a new tipping point in American history. I've devoted my latest cartoon to these people who care about all of our futures, it's up now on my website www.whatnowtoons.com
Cheers
