I thought it interesting that the section that purports to be about "Lifestyle" contains nothing but product ads masquerading as news articles. I can't say this is new or earth-shattering, but it struck me that maybe we've finally entered a new and frightening era, beyond even the "Digital Age." We're being micro-manipulated by an ever-more-faceless corporate machine, and it's all based on our online activity.

I guess we're offically living in the "Surveillance Age."

Or I am just tired. :)

3. My dad is still on dialup, as are most older people I know. My aunt even got a second line to run

dialup. As opposed to just getting DSL and having phone and computer run on the same line.

"Some men you just can't reach".

8. Mine was hotmail when it first went online. Used to go to the public library to check it, lol.

I got a computer for my 12th birthday (1993). A 486sx 25mhz running Windows 3.1 Begged my parents for a 2400 baud modem so I could get onto Compuserve. When I was finally able to order one, it ended up being a dud and the company wouldn't take it back. Didn't get an internet connection in the home until I started college in 2001 and I was able to lease a laptop from the school and log on to their dial-up ISP for free from home, LOL.

7. I called the phone company up the day I saw them running the lines.
I couldn't wait to dump dialup in favor of DSL. And I've never looked back.

I'd rather be without service for a couple of days when the modem fries than go back to dialup.

I just get a lot of fiber done during that couple of days.

2. The worst is when respectable news sites have sidebars with those fake "articles" about things like

acai berries or gold or extended warranty contracts, etc.

Why would you allow advertising that so blatantly tries to masquerade itself as legitimate content?

And I see stuff like that on the DU homepage all the time...

4. I got spooked today,
when I went to Tripadvisor it welcomed me today by my Facebook name, which is not my real name. From that I conclude that Tripadvisor and Facebook are reading each other's cookies. Weird!
