Occupy Wall Street Adopts Resolution and Declaration last night
As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.

As one people, formerly divided by the color of our skin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or lack thereof, political party and cultural background, we acknowledge the reality: that there is only one race, the human race, and our survival requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their brethren; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.

They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give CEO’s exorbitant bonuses.

They have perpetuated gender inequality and discrimination in the workplace.

They have poisoned the food supply, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.

They have continuously sought to end the rights of workers to negotiate their pay and make complaints about the safety of their workplace.

They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.

They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.

They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.

They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.

They have sold our privacy as a commodity.

They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.

They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.

They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.

They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them.

They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.

They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.

They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty book keeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.

They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.

They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.

They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.

They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts.

They have participated in a directly racist action by accepting the contract from the State of Georgia to murder Troy Davis.

To the people of the world,

We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.

Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.

To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.

Join us and make your voices heard!

45. Exactly as awesome as it should be!
I am finally feeling the exhilaration that I last felt the night of Obama's election, and that went away after I realized he'd played us.

And so great to see young faces engaged in the process. The anti war protests of January and February 2003 were mostly us oldsters.

23. And YOU young lady, have poisoned the environment with your devastating beauty.
You stand guilty before Venus and Christ of consuming the Earth in a certain fatality of swooning.

Mortal inhabitants weep, vexed with this shattering surfeit of exquisiteness as it shames the mountains, forests and fjords, a rolling quake to the senses.

Ye Gods! The ankles alone.

I am sure there would be many who would criticize for one reason or another..."too broad, not spicific enough etc". I am also sure many of the critics would not bother to spend a few minutes down there even in the annonimity of the crowd but would be very happy, not only to reap whatever benefits is gained by the protest and protestors but would defend at all cost their right to the benefits. I worder how many of these critics would be trolls and the underlings or surrogates of wallstreet.

15. The one place it gets fuzzy is where government is involved
Most obviously, "They have participated in a directly racist action by accepting the contract from the State of Georgia to murder Troy Davis."

One company accepting one contract is not the root of the problem. The problem is that the corporations have created a system of privatized prisons that feeds on over-incarceration, actively promotes both the failed war on drugs and the viciously punitive war on undocumented immigrants, and serves to repress dissent while lining corporate pockets and exerting a downward pressure on wages through the use of prison labor.

Same thing with "They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts." Points like this make it sound as if the corporations are merely passively accepting government money -- when in fact those government policies would not exist except for the desire of the corporations to control overseas markets and sources of supply.

These people could use to read Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket" a few more times and realize that almost every war of the past century (with the partial exception of World War II) has been a war on behalf of Wall Street.

It's a good first draft -- but it's not the final world.

33. I read the whole thing, every single word, twice over....
... I have eaten the food provided by "them" every day of my life, which would be over five decades, and I have yet to succumb to the "poison" that "they" have been inflicting upon me. But those "inactive ingredients" are going to get me yet!

It's difficult to take this unspecific, hodge-podge laundry list of accusations very seriously.

56. I think they should narrow this down a bit, perhaps
focusing primarily on the economic issues and corruption. For example, while I think the Troy Davis execution was wrong, it shouldn't be part of this. Much of it seems a little too vague and generalized, and will be characterized as such by the other side. You know, liberals just being pissed about everything. Liberals just hating on their country, etc. etc. We have plenty of grievances with the economic injustice alone, the money that's buying our political system, and even a media that ignores its respsonbisbilities. And who is They? They aren't the ones responsible for executing Troy Davis. Is They the Govt, The GOP, The Dems, Wall Street, big corporations?

57. I could not agree more...
Corporations are not evil, but they have only one purpose: to make a profit. They are not moral entities. It is up to human society, through their government, to control corporations, to restrict them so that they will not harm human society in their pursuit of profit. Our corporations have infiltrated our government and therefore corrupted government’s role. Until we get corporate money out of politics, we are doomed.

58. This "They" the OWS accuses doesn't sound like anyone I would want for a neighbor.

I am glad they have started to make themselves visible.

That said, 2 million kids and seniors went to bed last night with no food in their bellies in what was once the most
powerful nation on the earth. OWS, (mostly kids who have never been responsible for a home, a family, a business) had pizza
delivered, kept in touch on their cell phones. They complain (on their web site) that they are getting too many messages
from "worried mothers" trying to find out if their kids are ok.

I respect what they are doing, (I attended the local one, will be at the GA on Sunday). I am looking
forward to a day when we get to the "general solutions" they talk about. One has to have a plan to sell it.
It's important, because "They" have been doing these things for far too long, and it isn't going to change
until several million people vote to change it.

And that won't happen until the oppressed raise their own voices by the millions.
