This study on young evangelicals and sex got me thinking
First, the study did not surprise me: 80% of young evangelicals have had pre-marital sex. That compares to 88% of everybody else.

Here is what annoys, if not angers me. Born-again evangelicals will lecture the rest of us about abstinence until marriage, in spite of their own failure to live up to that standard. It especially grates on me to see some happily married young couple self-righteously preach to the rest of us about abstinence. The message I get from that is "we get to have sex as much as we want and it is blessed by God. Anybody else who does it is a hell bound fornicator". I have yet to find a wife, and as you might imagine, I find such sentiments offensive.

Then you have these evangelicals who might have been sexually promiscuous as young adults, but then they became "born-again" at say, age 30, and then they will become fierce advocates for abstinence until marriage.

In other words, they got to have their fun, and now nobody else can. Do as I say, don't do as I do.

1. That and it's often two people who married at 18
telling a person who is unmarried and 35 how to live.

Yeah, you "waited" all right... I'm sure "waiting" 5 whole years after puberty was absolutely brutal. :eyes:

I know
"Oh, were so holy, we 'waited'"

And they got married at 18.

Please.

3. Man, that's friggin' annoying of them
Those who can't live up to their own standards shouldn't lecture.

Good grief. What a lotta nerve.

That's surprisingly high given their preachings on the subject!

4. Life is unfair. As a male I cursed my early maturity vs girls and now
cougars are on the prowl everywhere.

Where was my Demi Moore in 1982?

5. I'll share a story about a young couple I knew.
This was years ago. I worked in a restaurant with a young woman who talked about how desperate she and her boyfriend were to get married so that they could get it on. They were both from conservative fundamentalist families and didn't believe in pre-marital sex. So they got married. They were still in their teens. For about two months they seemed to be very happy. Then she told us that she had discovered that her new husband was very irresponsible with money. He didn't have a job, she worked as a waitress, and she discovered that he had not been paying the bills. Things got worse. She was coming to work in tears - things were falling apart. She decided to leave him. She was going up to Alaska to homestead with a relative and put this mistake behind her. Then she discovered that she was pregnant. Divorce or annulment was off the table. The decision was made to send the young husband into the military.

At that point I got an office job and lost contact. Have no idea what happened to them but I can guess.

6. That annoys me too. I mean, why can't they mind their own damned business
and quit trying to force their crap on everyone else. I had my oldest daughter before I was married... In fact, she was the flower girl at my wedding in which I was pregnant with my middle child. Would it be right for me to preach to her about staying abstinent until she's married? No. When my 12 year old has asked me I told her you don't have to be married, but you should love each other very much. And I try to focus my kids on their interests and have them explore their interests and hope that they will have enough confidence in themselves not to get into that until they are older.

8. And of course they are so holy and Sanctified that GLBT people
best not ask to marry, oh no. Sacraments and all. They say their relationships are God made, and yet they divorce more than anyone. Sanctity my ass.
They are all hypocrites. Every last one of them,

9. Who gives a crap about what self-hating fundies think?
And other than a moment's laughter about how 4 out of 5 of them are admitted hypocrites, who really cares that they're more juiced up on hormones than the holy spirit?
