We love you, Senator Babs
Barbara Mikulski, the longest serving, and first Democratic, woman senator was inducted earlier tonight into the Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, NY, birthplace of the American Women's movement.

Babs is in some very good company. How nice that, tonight, she was inducted with another Baltimore woman, Jazz's Billie Holiday. 9 other women were also inducted, including Donna Shalala.

By the way, she started out as a community organizer, too, many years ago. She was fighting a freeway that threatened her neighborhood. That got her, eventually, to the Baltimore City Council. He friends and her political adversaries all got behind her as she started her rise. She quite a woman.

Here's a clip of Billie Holiday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_1LfT1MvzI

And another . . . . enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D2zKRoJSWY&feature=related

2. i met her a few months ago ...
while we were waiting for our sandwich orders at the deli counter at Eddie's on Charles Street near Towson.

I could not believe it! At first i thought the lady pushing the shopping cart looked a lot like her. Then I overheard a customer saying 'hi Barbara!" LOL!

We chatted briefly. This was during the intense budget negotiations going on with the WH and Republicans. She showed me the beeper that would go off if the Senate had to go in for a vote. And I thanked her for all she's done for us.

It was really cool! I was so excited about meeting her! :D

Good to hear about this event, if there's anyone who deserves that recognition, it's our Senator M!
