My Pics of the seizure of the Brooklyn Bridge
Edited on Sun Oct-02-11 10:22 AM by UnrepentantLiberal
It wasn't my intention to spend the evening in jail but as I approached Zuccotti Park the march was just starting and headed right at me. The rest, as they say, is history.

5. Thanks for being there.
Sometimes, being arrested is the right thing to do & this is definitely one of those times.

But don't allow your anger at the police to cause you to lose focus on the big one: the economic predators on Wall Street.

13. My pleasure. The cops didn't let me on the bridge, I was part of the
march. I was very proud to be there to support them, add to their numbers and be arrested with them. I have no animosity toward the cops. Most of them were in good humor about it. I sensed a real respect from them for us having the conviction to be arrested for something we believed in.

15. I noticed the Ron Paul signs...
We may not agree with Ron Paul's politics, but this is a good sign.

It's pretty difficult to mount a revolution when we're so divided. That's
why these corporatists and the neocons fuel right-wing radio. Beck,
Limbaugh and the rest of the lying blowhards--keep us divided and weak
against them.

They're terrified of a united country.

Those Paul signs give me hope. It doesn't necessarily mean that we're
all singing Kumbaya and holding hands--but I'll take it as a promising trend.

24. Actually, those Paul signs make me sorta disgusted.
These people are fighting against corporate malfeasance something Paul advocates FOR through less regulation. Also he would rather people starve then letting the Govt "save them". And besides that, this isn't a fucking political rally.

26. I think those signs...
...are great PR for the protesters' cause. The signs are one visual demonstration that
wanting corporate influence and greed out of government--trandscends political parties.

Yeah, I know what you mean about Paul--and disagreeing with his politics. However, we
don't all have to agree. But if we can find SOME common beliefs--and we all unite--that
is a beautiful thing.

In fact, it's the ONLY thing that will defeat the neocon, corporatist machine--so we'd damn
well better find a way to get MORE supporters of every political stripe out in the streets.

The time for left/right/progressive/conservative/democrat/republican divisions is OVER. We
need to heal our democracy---or ALL of us are screwed.

61. The Paul people will say, with some accuracy, that corporate power like this...
Edited on Sun Oct-02-11 10:09 PM by Recursion
...only happens through government collusion.

Note that Paul's biggest complaint about Obama is that he's a "corporatist", and that in his perfect world corporations would barely have any power at all.

64. If Paul really thinks that his policies would lead to that world, he's a moron
If by "government collusion" he means that the banks needed public money for bailouts to do what they did then yes, he's right about that part. But in the world where his ideal government exists, all of the bail out money would've already been controlled by the banks and corporations. A powerless government leads to the nation's wealth being controlled by a tiny group of elites. If Ron Paul doesn't think that will happen, he needs to read up on the Gilded Age.

We're talking about a (deliberate) massive shrinking of the GNP here.

65. I totally agree! Most Ron Paul supporters
I know are not the brightest around or they are really young & honestly do not understand who Ron Paul is, his history & what his true vision of America actually is...A pre-Civil War America where States are not bound by the Bill of Rights only the Federal Government is. The main objective is for Southern States to be able to set-up the Christian Theocracies they have dreamed about since the Confederacy was founded. Not only that but they think States should have a final say on all issues & can ignore any Federal Legislation they want. Basically creating 50 loosely connected countries.

...But he is for legalizing Cannabis & that alone is probably the main objective for half his followers...At least the ones I know.

60. That doesn't mean all ideologies of all workers need to unite.
Ron Paul wants to end social security and welfare and he's anti-immigrant, anti-gay, anti-choice and a former (if there is such a thing) white supremacist. A worker who is pro-Ron Paul is anti-immigrant workers, anti-gay workers, and anti-female workers. We do NOT need the right-wing racist elements of the working class if they aren't willing to give up their ideology.

Solidarity means standing with all races, sexual orientations, and genders. It does not mean you have to accept every worker's fucked-up, racist ideas.

I love that the protesters are peaceful. If they were combative and confrontational, that would be what the MSM covers. They instead are peacefully, passively getting the message across that we're mad as hell and aren't going to take it anymore.

72. I wonder how many police officers realize the protests are benefitting them
more than their current pay masters. In the long run (a radical concept to Wall Street), having economic justice allows the police to focus on real criminals and not just be the extension of somebody's corporate interest. I wonder how many police officers really care about that.
