The Supreme Court's new term |
|
Every year when The Supreme Court vegins it's new term, I think of Roberts and Alito and their impact on the Court's decisions and ask two questions: What did Ralph Nader hope to accomplish when he ran for president? and What did he really accomplish?

1. I've said that many, many times..... |
|
...and I always get filled up with attitude from extreme left-wingers who insist there was no difference between Gore and Bush. It's astounding even after what we've seen happen over the last 11 years, there are still people who remain in denial that their vote for Nader was a disasterous mistake.
Florida 2000 (Official Results):
Bush 2,912,790 Gore 2,912,253 Nader 97,488
Bush wins by 537-vote margin, giving him all 25 of Florida's electoral votes...and the presidency.
Electoral Vote Count (270 needed to win)
Bush 271 Gore 267

It's sad to think we could have a 6 vs 3 left on the Court instead of the 5 vs 4 right wing we have. I wonder how Obamacare is going to fare.

5. That's what I'm MOST concerned about.... |
|
...I was just approved for an individual plan with Aetna (with a 100% mark-up on the monthly premium due to two so-called "pre-existing conditions"). I was rejected by Cigna even though I've had uninterrupted GROUP coverage with them for the past 3+ years and these "pre-existing conditions" existed LONG before I was insured by Cigna.
I don't mind paying more for health insurance if it's good coverage, however my biggest fear is if the Affordable Care Act is overturned or repealed, my individual coverage could be cancelled at Aetna's whim if I happen to get sick in the FUTURE. I have 25+ years before I become eligible for Medicare, and the way this country is going, I wonder if Medicare will still be around by then.
Assuming Medicare is gone, and people ages 65 and up are required to buy their own insurance coverage, what sort of premiums will they have to pay? It's going to be hard to pay such high bills when you're too old to work full time (not because you're lazy, but simply because you won't be as productive or competent at a job than if you were 20-30 years younger). As your health deteriorates, even mildly, as you get older, will your private insurance carrier be able to cancel your coverage because you'll have become "too expensive" to insure? Holy crap...sounds like "death panels" to me.

4. Tennessee had gone solidly Republican long before 2000.... |
|
The NRA scared every gun owner in Tennessee into believing that Al Gore would personally come to each and every one of their homes and confiscate their guns.

Bush didn't win Connecticut. Gore wouldn't have needed Florida if 20000 NH voters hadn't voted for RN

People can speculate all they want about what Gore would have done policy wise. I think the biggest loss for us as a country was the citizens united decision. Never would have happened if Gore had made the SC appointments of the 2000s

You have to ask him that question.
"what was he on if he thought he could win?"
