Anonymous Launches Investigative Research Branch

from truthdig:

Anonymous Launches Investigative Research Branch
Posted on Oct 2, 2011

The hacker collective Anonymous launched a division devoted to investigative reporting last month, marking a departure from the group’s traditional practice of exposing corporations through hacking attacks.

Anonymous Analytics will bring together “analysts, forensic accountants, statisticians, computer experts and lawyers from various jurisdictions and backgrounds” to reveal corporate corruption through detailed reports, the group said on its website.

All research will be fact checked and vetted for authenticity before release, it said, and sources can provide tips via an encrypted drop box. The group published one report already: a lengthy and seemingly well-researched review of Chinese agricultural firm Chaoda Modern Agriculture. ...........(more)

4. Most "news" departments cut their budgets for investigative reporting long ago.
But you'll always know which celebrities are fucking each other if you stay tuned.

8. That's when you know you should be sad.
Because their fucking is a very special kind of fucking.

You could also be angry at whoever was the bigger asshole. Like when they go fuck some other celebrity they should not fuck. But sometimes they can, under special AUMF approval, fuck some other celebrity other than the usual one.

They always let me know which way to go on this, so I don't slip-up at social gatherings and make a faux pas regarding anyone's fucking.

12. That's always kinda depressed me about them
National media here in Canada's, well, not as bad as in the States, but still pretty lousy at times. One of the only sources I've seen that actually really get their claws into things is my town/province's smallish paper, which can be really, really cutting when they want to be. It sucks that that sort of ability's not even being considered at places that would obviously have far more resources at hand to implement it if they wanted.

6. I hope they
go after KBR, the one-time subsidiary of Halliburton. Hell, go after Halliburton as well.

Between the banksters, the oil boyz, and the war boyz, the Investigative Research team is going to be very very busy.

24. Thank GOD.
A truly vast amount of the corruption that's going on right now is through the abuse of computer systems. The camo this corruption wears is technological complexity, so its difficult for any main stream journalist to understand/meaningfully report the nature of the corruption, or even for legislators to approach it. Setting up a legit group with the skills needed to analyze these phenomenon, and report it in a meaningful way will do so much good.
