#23 on the list of things OccupyWallStreet folks Want ... A PONY!!?
Edited on Mon Oct-03-11 06:45 AM by Leopolds Ghost
Right, then... Meet Justice... Protest Pony! For all you bronies out there on Wall Street!

Based on Mike Flugennock's classic protest movement artwork at Sinkers.org... ponified!

What the hell is this, you ask? A political poster!

Sibling: Anonymous Pony
Cutie mark: Upraised hoof :headbang:

Favorite food: Vegan cupcakes (don't ask)

Occupation: Bicycle Mechanic (?!? despite having no hands) specializing in PPVs (Pony-Powered Vehicles)

Favorite music: For the New Lunar Republic

(Justice is also a member of the New Lunar Resistance ... naturally)

I haven't asked Mike about this but it's an (extensively redone) pastiche of two
classic posters he did for the 1999-2001 anti-globalization protests...

And of course, you may recognize the "wrench wench" from the 1940s.

Source: dcexchange (other sizes)

Here's a non-october 2011 specific version.

27. You guys won't believe this, but TWO Bronies had the same idea -- in reverse!
I just discovered these on a Pony thread dedicated to charitable giving, I shit you not.

No reference to politics, but still.

One person replied:

"Strange, before ponies I would laugh at this and mock the poor. Guess people DO change."

3. I don't really get the obsession with "My Little Pony."
What the heck is it, and why do people older than 5 like it?

Is it the new "Hello Kitty," or something like that?

5. You know how the 60's counterculture embraced Spider-Man, and WWII military embraced Looney Toons?
Sort of like that.

Creating an acceptable realm for and kindness and cutesiness in male discourse,

Thereby fucking up the machine.

Translation: "IT'S FUCKING MANLY TO LIKE RAINBOWS AND KITTENS!"

Anyhow, apparently you have to watch a few episodes for there to be any effect.

Which being older than 5, naturally *cough* I would know nothing about.

15. It's better than that. * Ponies Invading The Marine Corps & Air Force!! *
Thanks to its popularity among violent video gamers, and other factors.

http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/04/ponies-invading-marine-corps.html

Apparently a brony in the Marine Corps has been spreading ponies throughout his barracks! These are some marker-drawn additions to the walls. I guess a small segment of them almost got Pinkie Pie printed on to their shirts for physical training, but unfortunately the higher-ups saw it at the last second and shut the idea down! The bastards!

Apparently Rainbow Dash has infiltrated the German Airforce as well!

Army brony here, ponies gave me motivation to get through Ranger training!

USAF Brony here.

I don't think people in the military really capture the essence of My Little Pony. What with...killing people without question and all that shit. Especially marines.

@Anonymous

Just because our world isn't the paradise that is Equestria doesn't mean we can't take comfort in the innocence that exists. If it were up to most of us, I'm sure we'd be more than happy if we never had to take up arms against someone else, but unfortunately, our world is far from perfect.

I support my military bronies!

navy bronie here! i've been trying to spread the pony love among my shipmates.

Now that just sounds wrong!

20. Ok, here are some things My Little Pony teaches us activists about injustice:
Edited on Mon Oct-03-11 01:26 PM by Leopolds Ghost
(source: Ms. Magazine article)

* Magical white ponies are suited for leadership.

* Stop learning! You will overcome any obstacle by resorting to strength in numbers (of friends).

* Girls that wear rainbows are butch.

* You need the government (ideally a monarch invested with supreme executive power and a phallic symbol strapped to her forehead) to tell you what to do with your life.

I dunno, I think Rainbow Dash looks and sounds like Rachel Maddow -- deliberately? Does that make her butch?

Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 05:13 AM by Leopolds Ghost
You know me, I used to work for a certain webmaster!

Note the identity of the url for the images ;-)

Don't worry I wasn't going to do anything with this without asking you (other than post it on DU);
I did it as a vanity project for fun. But I didn't know how to get in touch!

I wanted to make myself a topical version of your wrench wench poster with attribution,
(it was originally going to be just a copy of the original image with event dates removed)
but I realized the original posters were event-specific so I decided to make a collage.
(note the Sinkers attribution for the source of image.) I still have my Mobe' T-shirt, BTW.

I'll shoot you a PM....

for your reply! I am actually missing "the main event" this weekend in DC (such as it is) -- October2001.org -- because I'm out of town. I only caught the first two days of the protest.

I will say this about the DC protests -- they need more people! Right now the Occupy folks seem to have more fire in the belly than the October2011 folks -- and the latter group had been planning to be there for months, but is not planning to stay past this weekend apparently.

They're occupying two different squares, too, in an effort to maintain distance from each other's efforts. !?!
