I hope and pray the Italian court will do the right thing today
and free Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollicito. And may the family of Meredith Kercher find peace with the acquittal.

Here is a link to their final statements (Amanda's is very powerful and emotional):

1. I guess someone disagrees since this was un-recced.
Why are people so ignorant of the facts in this case?

5. How is she not completely innocent?
She's either guilty or innocent.

7. In the court of law she probably is guilty
but I do not believe that she was the driving force behind the murder. It will be interesting to see how this turns out though.

21. Huh? The first trial was a scam. The original prosecutor is sitting in jail now.
There is no physical evidence that puts her at the scene.

1. The guy from the Ivory Coast (Rudy Guede) had a history of breaking into homes with knives
2. Guede was obsessed with Meredith Kircher and had asked her out numerous times
3. Guede's semen, footprints and fingerprints are all over Kircher's bloodied room, but no footprints, handprints or other DNA evidence to show that Amanda and Raffaele were there at the time of the murder.
4. The supposed "signed confession" was a scenario the police coerced her into "imagining" with them after hours and hours of grueling interrogation without a lawyer present. She recanted it the next day and said it was coerced and that she was hit in the head if she didn't cooperate.
5. The weapon they claimed to have found in Sollecito's apt had no trace of blood on it. The DNA of Meredith Kircher that the prosecutors claimed to have found on the knife has been proven to be faulty. Also, the knife does not match the knifeprint found on Kercher's pillow.
6. Any DNA they found of Knox would have been in the apt anyway because she lived there. None of it ties her definitively to the crime.
7. Neither Knox nor Sollecito have any no prior history of participating in orgies or satanic sex rituals.
8. The original prosecutor (now sitting in jail) has a history of claiming that murders were committed by perpetrators involved in "satanic sex rituals".
9. The Italian court is not sequestered like they are here in the US. So the prosecution leaked damaging "evidence" to the press and painted Knox and Sollecito as sex-crazed psychopaths. The prosecutors did this with the intention of swaying public opinion and the jury.

The whole thing is a sham. Rudy Guede is guilty and acted alone. THAT is what the evidence shows.

15. Perhaps someone doesn't think it merits the front page of a US politics forum?

Since it is not a US issue, political issue, or has anything to do with Democratic politics?

Rec/unrec is a vote for or against an OP making the Greatest Page. Whining about it is just silly.

They should do something about that guy, first of all. Impossible to try a case with him in charge.

tired (and tiresome) ritualistic bashing of people of faith which has become de rigueur for any DUers who wish to prove their "righteous lefty" bona fides.

23. Actually I think it's the theists that have all of the rituals wherein they bash people...
Edited on Mon Oct-03-11 11:15 AM by truebrit71
..particularly those people that are different than them...

But for the purposes of this discussion, I think that prayer helps the person praying, but has bugger all effect on what is being prayed about...

Being an atheist doesn't necessarily equate to not believing in anything, it just means I/we don't believe in the same things as thesists do.

For instance, right now, i believe I will have another cup of tea....;-)

27. I don't know the ins and outs of the case to be sure, but it appeared from the outside...
..that there were agendas being followed regardless of what the actual evidence showed...

The most I can say is that I hope that justice is done.
