NPR: Cokie Roberts' {predictable} take on Occupy Wall Street
There's hardly a time that Cokie's dismissive and heavily biased assessment of political affairs in this country doesn't grate on my nerves-- even the tone of her voice makes my blood pressure go up!-- but today was especially annoying. What a poor excuse for a journalist! If you didn't know a thing about OWS and heard her little shtick this morning, you'd still know virtually nothing about why OWS is happening.

Cokie's view of OWS is simply that this is all just bad news for Obama's bid for re-election. It's his constituency, pissed at him. End of story. By her painting of OWS events, sounds like everyone there is a teenager or twentysomething. She predictably whittled down the numbers of protestors to just a few hundred, didn't mention the 700 arrested on the Brooklyn Bridge, nothing about police brutality, and had not one thing insightful to say about why they are there. Not a word about the Wall Street criminals that have crashed the world's economy, nothing about the suffering across this nation that their failures have wrought. Zero... zip... nada... about what a monumental coming together of American citizens it has become.

Of course OWS is not good news for Obama, but OWS is so much more than just that.

2. It's probably NOT good news for Obama
After all, Wall Streeters are his PEOPLE. He certainly doesn't give two shits about the people protesting. He'd rather have the dollars from Wall Street.

7. I don't think it has to be that way.
He can get behind OWS. Ultimately, I think that will be what he does.

13. No, it doesn't have to be that way.
But unfortunately, that's the way it IS. Subject to change, but not likely.

27. They are not Obama's peeps.
If you endeavor to change an organzation or industry and in the process of deciding how to do that you talk to a consulting firm that specializes in organizational change, one of the standard recommendations will be to involve members of that group in helping you figure out how to change them.

Part of the reason is, people involved in the group understand the challenges and general reasons why certain things were done certain ways.

I know the standard criticism that what I said will be met with but before you say what I think you will say, do you think it is a good idea to change the way teachers do things, for instance, without involving teachers. Do you think that changing the way unions do things makes sense without involving people familiar with unions.

3. I stopped listening to NPR when Cokie gave her "Bush Charm Offensive" *report*
I was during the 2000 campaign.

She reported that Bush was "charming, oh, so charming" and, if elected, he would use his "charm offensive" to get things done in DC. :puke:

Oh, and he like to give nicknames and more Americans wanted to have a beer with W than with Al Gore. :eyes:

That was the last time I listened to NPR...

9. Cokie is definitely part of the establishment
Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne Boggs<1> was born on December 27, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received the sobriquet "Cokie" from her brother Tommy, who could not pronounce "Corinne".<1> Cokie Roberts is the third child and youngest daughter of former ambassador and long-time Democratic Congresswoman from Louisiana Lindy Boggs and of the late Hale Boggs, also a Democratic Congressman from Louisiana who was Majority Leader of the House of Representatives. Her sister, the late Barbara Boggs Sigmund, was mayor of Princeton, New Jersey and a candidate for U.S. Senate from New Jersey. Her brother Tommy Boggs is a prominent Washington, D.C. attorney and lobbyist.

21. I was disgusted by the sheer glee she took in reporting the Clintons "trashing" the White House.

She was happily reporting that what they knew all along was correct: the Clintons were just trailer trash. That is when it finally sunk in that it wasn't just the rightwing wurlitzer out to get the Clintons. It was the entire Washington establishment.

I am one of those who view Clinton as the "best Republican President" in decades. And I still found this establishment blue blood shit disgusting.
