House GOP freshmen have no safe seats
The 87 House freshmen who helped the GOP seize the majority by capitalizing on a deep reservoir of anti-establishment resentment are discovering that anger hasn’t gone away — and it could even threaten their fledgling careers.

Some tea party darlings from 2010 are fearful of tea party challengers in 2012, facing charges they’ve turned their backs on the movement’s small-government beliefs.

The continuing rancor serves as a warning flag to freshmen about the hostile climate likely to rage in 2012.

1. How true that is, and the loonier they are, the easier they'll be to oust
if Obama can motivate people to show up for a general election with himself on the Democratic ticket and right now that's a very big "if."

2. I find that a little hard to believe
surely some of them must have won seats that were heavily GOP due to GOP retirements and running for Senate, etc.

11. Arkansas' 3rd Congressional District (Northwest Arkansas)
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 01:26 AM by Art_from_Ark
has been Republican since 1967. It is currently represented by a freshman Republican who will in all likelihood win another term.

3. It will be fun to watch in 2012 :)

It's their own fault, The GOP should have put it all to a stop when the craziness first started way back during the 2008 Republican Convention and they should have squashed the right-wing teaparty extremists right off the bat.

They all thought the shit Palin started was 'just so great' back then - well now they will be paying for their stupidity :)

4. I'm more worried about the senate. I have heard there is a good chance
the senate will go republican because so many more dem seats are up for grabs than repub seats.

5. In terms of the raw numbers, I would say that's true
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_elections,_2012

Twice as many Democrats seeking re-election and thrice as many Democrats retiring.

8. I think we can hold all our seats and pickup in:
Connecticut
Indiana
Massachusetts

The key thing is that this is going to be a Presidential Election - We Have to Crank Our Turnout Sky High! We do that - and maybe just maybe we'll have a shot at the House too.

STOP THE DIVISIVENESS - We have more important things to do that fight each other. Being in power is way better than being out of power.

7. I would feel better if they were worried
about being replaced by someone less insane. It seems that the GOP in these districts are in a in positive feedback loop of crazy.

9. With redistricting, my re-aligned district will be fought over

by TWO tea partiers! Oh joy! And, I have looked but haven't found out definitely but it looks like NO Democratic challenger to this mess in Illinois' 14th. We will have Randy Hultgren 14th District incumbent square off against Joe 'Dead Beat Dad' Walsh incumbent from the 8th. The 8th is being challenged by Tammy Duckworth (D) and Joe knows he's beat there.

Seriously. Our newly drawn 14th District is even colored RED... the PTB in the Democratic Party have apparently given up on us.

13. No seats should be 'safe' seats. All of the House and 1/3 of the Senate should be
replaced at the next election.

That *might* be a wake-up call to the remaining 2/3 in the Senate.

None of them should consider their congressional term to be a career.

14. They only believe in small government until they see all the perks they get.

Suddenly, they LIKE government and don't want to leave. No one wants to vote away all their newly gotten goodies.
