Chris Christie is not stupid.
He may be an asshole and a bully but he is not stupid. He has been watching the Republicans eat their own and he knows he would be more than a mouthfull. He will not run. He will wait, lose weight and come roaring back in 2016.By that time the Republican Party will be in such a shambles that he will look like a savior. Just my opinion...:-)

8. ...but reality is telling him he also has to climb lots of stairs.
AF1 doesn't get a covered gateway like passenger planes do. It's a long way up to that cabin door. Think of all the video you seen over the years of presidents bounding up the stairs and waving to the crowds. Now imagine Christie climbing five steps, then pausing to catch his breath. I'm not being flip. The man is seriously overweight and unfit for the rigors of being president.

7. I suppose it is possible that the $ guys are twisting his arm and
telling him that if he doesn't run now they won't support him in 2016 but I doubt it.

5. He might hire Huckabee as his personal trainer.
Maybe even campaign manager.?.

6. If he has competent advisors he will do as you stated.
He will not beat Obama. He will be destroyed in the campaign because of all of his left-leaning positions and his serious weight problem. We aren't allowed to talk about weight on DU -- one of the most stupid things I've encountered on the interweb tubes -- but it's a fact. America won't elect a seriously (SERIOUSLY) obese president. It is a health issue, not one of looks. The presidency is hard, hard work requiring a lot of physical stamina. Years ago, when I was a "mere" 230 pounds, just tying my shoes was an issue. How the hell will a 400+ lb man deal with the rigors of campaigning, let alone the schedule of a president?

He should use his wealth to hire a personal trainer and get himself in decent physical shape. Then, he needs to get an attitude adjustment. The mean bully schtick might work in New Jersey (although his constituents seem to hate him there), but it's not going to fly on a national scale.

Personally, I don't think anything he does will help. He is only being talked about because the GOP is desperate for a real candidate. But once they find out who Christie Cream really is, they'll run from him just as they have all their other loony-tunes candidates.

12. The GOP itself would have to lose a considerable amount of weight
Christie favors gay rights, the so-called “Ground Zero mosque", and gun control.

The GOP would have to shed the batshit crazies in order for Christie to look attractive to them. If they did that, they would only be left with the 1 percenters. Kinda hard to win an election that way.

13. I have to agree 100% with what you said. Christie knows he couldn't win his own state in 2012
Sure people will talk about the polls but consider this. John McCain had more votes than Christie in his lost to Obama in 2008. Christie won because it was an off-off-election year. Republicans are known for being more reliable voters than democrats. Obama actually had about a million more votes in 2012 in New Jersey than Chris Christie did in 2009 for his governor win.

Christie has crunched the numbers and know that he could lose his own state if he ran in 2012. Safer he wait until 2016 - he doesn't want to be the Bob Dole candidate in 2012.

16. DUers have attributed the same plan to several others, such as Jindal and Jeb
Assuming that Obama is re-elected, it looks like another full GOP clown car for 2016.

17. I agree. Things might be very different by then, but he'll take a shot.
He's morbidly obese and has said he has problems losing weight, so for the sake of his health and any run, he should prolly just get that stomach band, laproscopic? is that it?

He's not ugly either. Murika only likes big, pleasantly-faced christian spokesmodels for pres. But maybe Aquarius will fully Rise by then?

The Koch's love that asshole, which is one more minus.
