My Easy Idea to Support OWS
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 11:59 AM by otohara
for those of us who can't attend the various protests.

We probably get 3-4 CREDIT CARD applications every week.

Yesterday I sent the "application form" back ShittyCiti-Bank in their paid postage envelope with big Sharpie words that read - I SUPPORT THE OWS PROTESTERS!!!

I plan to send each and every one back in solidarity with the protesters.

Millions of credit card apps are sent out daily - let's send them all back with a big FU message

3. I LOVE the idea, but is the post office getting business from it?
It seems like they would be sending these letters back for free

4. Doesn't that cost the post office money?
You are sending something without a stamp. I have no issue with what you did, but they are not getting any extra "business" out of this. Just extra work.

7. Ah, so you're not just sending it back as it came in the mail?
But rather sending it in their return envelope, where you would place the application?

Kinda cool :)

Are you writing on the application, or on the envelope itself?

8. I think Postage Paid does help USPS
My understanding is, the sender (credit card corporation) has an agreement with the Post Office something like this - for every one of their Postage Paid enveloped that gets processed, the negotiated per-piece postage rate is accumulated, then charged back to them in bulk.

It's kind of the postage equivalent of a collect call. And yes, if you stuff it full of heavy paper to get it to weigh 2-3 ounces or more, it should cost the corporation more than their standard 1st class negotiated rate.

And whaddya know, Google brought up an old DU thread from 2005 regarding this ==>

9. Please make sure to stuff the
envelope with lots of cardboard and other paper....that costs the banks extra postage...and it's good for the postal workers.

15. Great idea - we started doing that with all pre-paid envelopes that
we did not want way back in the 60s in an effort to stop junk mail. I think it probably helps the post office also since they have to pay the postage for everyone sent back.

16. My mom, in the early stages of Dementia
was funding both Democratic and right-wing organizations. I had all her mail forwarded to me. I stuff Democratic literature in the Republican pre-paid envelopes. I also do this with the credit card applications too. It does help the Post Office, (per my Post Mistress).
