On Politics: Tommy Thompson files for U.S. Senate race, signs tax pledge

<snip>

It looks like he's in.

Tommy Thompson on Tuesday filed his statement of candidacy for the U.S. Senate race.

"I'm ready for the fight ahead and, as you know, no one is better prepared to fix the mess in Washington than I am," said Thompson, long-time former governor and previous secretary of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Thompson, in an email to supporters, also announced that he has signed a "taxpayer protection pledge" from Grover Norquist's group, Americans for Tax Reform. That pledge says that he will oppose efforts to increase incomes taxes for individuals and businesses.

<snip>

Since Tammy Baldwin is a shoo-in for the Democrats, might we have a Tammy vs. Tommy race?

This might be fun.

3. I don't think there is anything fun about it
For one thing, the people of Wisconsin have already elected that bozo to statewide office 3 or 4 times. For another, he has generally been good at raising funds. Unless he faces a tough primary, this could be a tough race for Tammy, and I cannot stand the thought of Thompson being in the Senate.

6. After being a governor and a cabinet member, why does he want to be a junior senator at age 70??

7. clearly he does it for the children
As long as there is one child of a billionaire facing an estate tax, Tommy Thompson will keep fighting.

As long as tax money is taken from rich people to help the needy or for some social purpose, Tommy Thompson will keep fighting.

Besidss, the pay is good, being a Senator is kinda prestigious. You gotta do something with your time. Plus, he likes winning elections and being in the spotlight. Maybe he thinks he can run for President again, or be on the ticket as Brownback's VP.
