@ggreenwald: Imagine if journalists were willing to heap even a fraction of the scorn on the powerful as they bravely spew at marginalized protesters https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/121323869821865985

Before TV, journalism was primarily a blue collar job, with people working for family-owned newspapers/magazines/radio stations.
Every small town had at least one (often two or more) newspapers/radio stations.
If a reporter stepped on powerful toes, and was let go, he could easily find another job at a competitor paper/radio station.
These venues were ALL about the expose' because it sold papers, and they loved exposing the fat-cats. Careers were made on this stuff.. Higher profile meant higher pay and maybe a promotion.
Fast forward to now..
Everything is in the hands of a few powerful/politically connected entities whose sole purpose is to drive an agenda that makes MORE money for themselves and their shareholders.
The "worker bees" are mostly well-coiffed Barbie/Ken types who know which side of the bread has the butter, or crusty old timers hoping to hang on long enough to retire in comfort....and even if they do get pissed off, where do they go? They cross the management, and they are cut off from income/insurance benefits.

And despite public ownership of the broadcast airwaves, it ain't us. Their job used to be to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. Now it's to go down to the class war battlefield and shoot the wounded.

11. A Journalist's job USED to include: 'Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.' |
|
There are many other things that journalists no longer do, like putting the national interest ahead of corporate profits.
Whatever happened to truth, anyway? Anyone remember integrity?

13. There are very few journalists, but there are plenty of corporate employed "media protectors of the |
|
rich and powerful." The corporate owned media is no longer a free press so to speak, most of those who are part of the corporate media, do what they are told if they want to continue their employment.
We need a press that is free from corporate rule, just like we need health care that is free from corporate rule, and most importantly, a government that is free from corporate rule.
Until we force that to happen, because of course they are not going to do it willingly, we will be under the forced rule of the corporations, the rich and the powerful until they destroy everything by trying to steal and privatize everything. Lou

14. All the protesters should wear suits & carry briefcases. So, you know, they'd count. |
|
... or NASCAR T-shirts and guns. Apparently that counts as well.
