Five City Teachers Among Arrested Wall Street Demonstrators
On Monday morning, when David Suker returned to his classroom and distributed The New York Post to begin the usual morning assignment, his students looked up excitedly, having recognized a familiar face on the front page: his.

Mr. Suker, 43, was one of the more than 700 people arrested at the Occupy Wall Street demonstration on Saturday while crossing the Brooklyn Bridge.

City Department of Education officials said five public-school teachers that they know of have been arrested in the Wall Street demonstrations so far.

Being arrested can be dicey for teachers. Though they cannot lose their jobs for civil disobedience, an arrest for anything more aggressive could land them in trouble.

5. It's the mob!
Nothing frightens wall st more than hundreds of unleashed, unhinged, unsupervised school teachers!

Those radicals! Those communists! Those anarchists! Those freedom-haters! They probably won't bring their principals with them! Or their number 2 pencils!

I'll bet they left their desks a mess, their doors unlocked, with the lights on and the blinds open!!

Who knows where it will end??? They might even stop correcting papers and march (single file, silently, stopping at the corner) and chant (And it won't be the pledge of allegiance, I tell you!).

Oh-noes!

All those correctly spelled, grammatically correct signs! Logical arguments! People saying Gesundheit and offering each other tissues!

Better get Bloomberg down there to defend wall st from those hell-raisers!!!

Who let them out of their classrooms??!!!

7. The NYC Teacher's Union should come out and support this, formally.
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 09:03 PM by msanthrope
I don't know why Mike Mulgrew hasn't made a public statement, and supported this.

The union is sending approximately 4,000 people to the MLK rally, so it's not like there's not money or people available...
