5. and for my husband, who was laid off from a job |
|
he did, (and did well, has the performance reviews to prove it), for over 23 years. He, along with all the other over 50's, were axed when the stock market dived back in 2008. In fact anyone who had reached a certain level of benefits and salary were let go. It had nothing to do with performance, and everything to do with seniority, salary and benefit level. It took him a while, but he did find a job, at about half of what he was making, and less than half of the benefits.
He has had many conversations with former employees, including top level executives, who told him, without doubt, it was the stock market dive that drove the lay offs. This particular company has plenty of cash and assets, and these layoffs were not in anyway necessary, except to please wall street.
Our lives have changed in so many ways, and not for the better. I don't think we will be retiring anytime soon.
I will be joining our local OWS whenever I can.

It's not tragic like the stories you posted, and we will survive, but I feel that it is just another example of wall street criminality.

9. And RW'ers think terrorists pose the biggest threat |
|
Roughly 3000 people were killed on 9/11.
Yes, it was a horrible tragedy, that could have been prevented.
But it only happened once. These other tragedies happen every day. In the 10 years since 9/11, nearly half a million people (450,000) have died from lack of medical care.
Fuck Republicans.
