such coverage, I have a very distorted idea of what's actually important out there. Or at least it's distorted in comparison to what the mainstream media would have you think matters.

16. Own a TV and still not watching ... |
|
I gave up CNN and MSNBC (never saw Fox in my life anyway) several years ago. Unless some live story is breaking, or a speech before a joint session of Congress, I just don't turn it on (and even then, I turn off the sound for the pundits and yakkers). I too know nothing about these sensational trial cases. I read the New York Times and Chicago Tribune every morning. And if there's something I'm not interested in I just turn the page.
I share your (blissfully) distorted idea of what's actually important out there.

YOUR view is NOT distorted. CNN's is. And yes, I'm a glutton for punishment to think that they'll cover real news. I guess a girl can dream.

27. Yep. But those who watch a heavy dose |
|
of CNN or their local news or Fox, think that some things are a LOT more important than they really are.
Personally, I'm glad Amanda Knox was freed as from what little I've read about the case, she was not the one who killed the other unfortunate young woman. But wall to wall coverage?
A couple of years ago when Michael Jackson died, it was several months before I learned that every network had gone wall to wall on him, and I was completely appalled when I realized that. Michael Jackson was a decent entertainer, but he was (in my opinion) no where near as fantastic as the hype would lead you to believe, and no matter what, there were more important things happening than his unfortunate passing.
Meanwhile, truly important stuff, like what's happening in NYC and around the country, is barely a blip. Although I guess now we know what it's actually like to live in a country with official government suppression of news. No, I am not saying that's what we have; what we have is official news organization suppression and distortion.

Is it yet another white woman that no-one gives a flying fig about?
I have absolutely no idea who this Knox woman and how it impacts my life.
Thanks CNN, for this useless crap that we are forced to listen to.
It doesn't make any sense to me or to the average American.

Had his miscarriage of justice overturned. I don't understand the anger towards Knox. We should be happy that a young woman's life wasn't thrown away.

It's CNN that's chapping my ass. I keep looking at their website to see if they're ever going to cover the OWS protests, But no, they been serving a heaping helping of Amanda Knox for a couple of weeks now.

There are a lot of people out there who aren't political and have little interest in those types of stories. But many of those people are interested in stuff like Amanda Knox. CNN knows this. It wants as many viewers as possible and you won't get that with nothing but political stories all day and all night.
My SO would be a good example. I eat and breathe political news all day long, but she's not political in the least. She never watches the news and probably hasn't even heard about OWS. If she has heard about it, I can pretty much guarantee that she doesn't give a shit. But she did ask me the other night if I thought Knox was guilty. From CNN's perspective, her eyeballs are just as good as mine.

If it's so objectionable to you, SHUT IT OFF.
We live thirty miles from Seattle. One of the local stations covered Amanda Knox's plane landing. Live. I know someone who knows her family. This is most likely the biggest news story here for twenty years. While I wonder why we needed all the coverage, according to local media, there were reporters from around the world at Sea-Tac Airport yesterday to see her arrival.
If people weren't watching it, it wouldn't be featured.
Unfortunately for all of us, OWS will not get widespread coverage until someone gets hurt, or until normal business on Wall Street is interrupted.
