Several NYC area DUers have expressed interest in joining the Occupy Wall Street protests this weekend. We will meet at the cube on the South East Corner of Broadway and Liberty St in Manhattan at 11AM. We'll participate in the protest, hang out, join the General Assembly at 1PM, spread the good name of DU, and have some fun with our fellow 99%ers.

Bring yourselves, your signs, and your enthusiasm. I'll put up a post on Saturday morning to help get everyone together, so don't worry if you'll be late. I'll try to update status for as long as I'm there.

Please post any questions here or PM me. Please let us know if you plan to attend so we have an idea how many people are coming. I will post a new thread with more info on Friday

I can only commit to being there until 3PM, but if someone wants to organize a get together at a bar for later in the day that would be great.

42. Arrangements were made today for a DU - OWS connection SATURDAY October 8th at 11 AM.

At the Big Cube on the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street. The address is 140 Broadway.

-- We set up this first OWS - DU event for Saturday at 11 AM on October 8, 2011. The site is the big Cube on the Broadway side of Brown Brothers Harriman, at the corner of Broadway and Liberty.

-- A speaker from OWS will greet everyone from DU. A statement of purpose and an invitation to support OWS will be presented.

That site can accommodate 250 DU members and their friends easily. As many as 1,000 extra people connected to DU can be accommodated directly with OWS plans for Saturday afternoon.

Freely exercise your freedom of speech and of the press; and the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Please, feel free to do all of this with Occupy Wall Street.

ALERT: The 2nd biggest heist of the decade is about to occur, which Rolling Stone blogger Matt Taibbi warned us about several weeks ago. The last "repatriation tax holiday" in 2004 enabled big business to hide billions in profits offshore, bring the money back to the U.S. for one day to avoid paying taxes, then pocketed all of it without "reinvesting" in any new businesses or jobs. This time, it's $1.4 trillion in offshore tax havens that Senators Kay Hagan (D-NC) and John McCain (R-Ariz) hope will be a shot to our economy. It will be a shot to the wallets of fat-cat Wall Streeters.

They don't want the general public to know about this until this second heist of the decade is passed quietly. Then it's too late.

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--A bipartisan pair of senators plans to introduce on Thursday a bill proposing a tax break for U.S. companies that bring home foreign profits.
Sens. John McCain (R., Ariz.) and Kay Hagan (D., N.C.) will co-sponsor legislation that would create a repatriation tax holiday, reducing the corporate taxes that U.S. multinationals would pay when bringing home overseas profits, in an effort to boost the economy. Their bill, called the Foreign Earnings Reinvestment Act, would create an incentive for companies to bring back an estimated $1.4 trillion currently kept overseas, according to an advisory from their offices.
Rep. Kevin Brady (R., Texas) previously introduced a similar bill in the House in May that would tax overseas corporate profits brought back to the U.S. at a roughly 5% rate, rather than the top corporate rate of 35%.
Major U.S. companies including Google Inc. (GOOG), Apple Inc. (AAPL), Pfizer Inc. (PFE) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) have pushed for a repatriation effort. However, critics, including the conservative think-tank Heritage Foundation, have questioned whether a repatriation effort would create more jobs or spur more domestic investment.
Congress previously passed a repatriation tax break in 2004, billed then as a one-time fix.
Even before the bill is formally introduced, its chances of being approved by lawmakers were downplayed by a top Senate Democrat.
I don't think repatriation could move through the Senate on its own," said Sen. Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.), the No. 3-ranking Senate Democrat and a senior member of the tax-policy writing finance committee.
