Democrats WON WEST VIRGINIA. This should be getting
lots of TV Coverage. The Media and Republicans
had started the The mantra. Obama is dragging
the Democrats down. If the Dems had lost, this
would have been the Lead Story. Instead the Dems
won. and it is such a little covered story.

The Republicans had gone in their trying with
money and whatever they had to beat the Democratic
Governor. All their money did not change things.

A big Yes to Obama. Those Democrats on the Hill
chalk up two. We had a great win in NY Special
Election affirming protecting SS Medicare and
now in spite of the Republican onslaught, we
have second win--hold the Governor's seat in WVa.

3. How is this a win?
Tomblin did everything possible to distance himself from President Obama, his policies, and the progressives.

He ran as a DINO and won in a state that has one of the highest disapproval rates for the President.

I have no idea what kind of acrobatics people are doing to register this as a "win."

5. That's true
Though he did also campaign on opposition to the anti-collective bargaining stuff going on in Wisconsin and Ohio. That had particular salience since Ohio is right next door.

6. It's a coal state, and he was endorsed by the unions.
If he had campaigned for or remained silent about that, he likely would have been massacred.

One more thing he has separated himself from Obama on - the President has remained utterly silent about the anti-union activities.

18. We'd be better off with the GOP tea party candidate wining I guess.
If the DEM lost, the media would be screaming that this was more proof that Obama is doomed.

Now that a DEM won, nothing to see, move along.

No mention that yet another Tea Party nut lost.

4. I agree that the 'dragging down' narrative was way overdone
But this is no NY-9 either. Though West Virginia doesn't like Obama much, registered Democrats still outnumber Republicans there by a good margin, so this is really the outcome that was 'supposed' to happen if you just look at the numbers. Unlike NY-9, this is more of a 'dog bites man' story.

7. It there was so much hatred of Obama there, the massive TV
buys and campaigning Specifically against Obama,
the Republicans could have walked away with the
win.

Their campaign was anti-Obama and against health care
bill.

This 72 hour blitz has worked most often for Republicans
and they are expert at it.

Yes W. Va has a history of electing Conservative Democrats.
We seem to accept this.

The Anti-Obama campaign did not work.

11. Obviously it didn't work
Or didn't work enough. That's apparently how they want it. They want conservative Dems to govern and represent them, but they don't to select Obama for the WH. Barring some sort of game-changer, he's not going to win there in 2012. Voting habits can be peculiar. But you're right. Not liking Obama is only going to matter a lot when he's actually on the ballot. Even then, I don't think it will change all that much further down the ticket.

13. A bluedog win is no big deal because you can't count on bluedogs to help when the going gets tough.
Instead they sandbag you, like happened with HCR.

17. The lesser of 2 evils is still LESS EVIL.
Take a good look at the right winger Tomblin was running against, or the guy Raese that Manchin ran against previously.
It could have been worse.
