<snip>Of course the total depend on one’s definition of a mental disorder. Take the following facts, for example. According to a 2010 poll:

» 67 per cent of Republicans (and 40 per cent of all Americans) believe Mr. Obama is a socialist;

» 57 per cent of Republicans (32 per cent overall) believe he’s Muslim;

» 45 per cent of Republicans (25 per cent overall) agree with the Birthers that the President was “not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president;”

» 38 per cent of Republicans (20 per cent overall) say Mr. Obama is “doing many of the things that Hitler did;”

» and 24 per cent of Republicans (14 per cent overall) say Mr. Obama “may be the Antichrist.”

As of this Friday at 9:24 a.m. there were exactly 311, 890,178 Americans. So, among other things, 124,756,071 Americans believe the President of the United States is a socialist. If only. Does this make them a) surprisingly shrewd, b) supremely ignorant, c) paranoid, or d) off their rockers? Choose one.

Some of these Americans are the Republican members of Congress ...

32. Does this idiotic bullshit have to come up every time someone mentions that figure?
Yes, yes, I know, "mental illness" and "Republican" overlap precisely so we can just assume anyone suffering from a mental disorder is automatically Republican.

No, wait.

Yes, it is a fucking coincidence.

11. Sociopath Nation
Our society rewards sociopathic behavior, which is perhaps exemplified no place better than corporate culture. I would argue further that the concept of 'corporate personhood' elevates sociopathology to a desired characteristic - one necessary for its survival. It's hardly surprising that people would start emulating these characteristics in their personal lives.

I believe that the logical hoops through which people must jump in order to provide justification for their sociopathic acts contributes to this national epidemic of mental illness, which manifests itself in other forms - not just sociopathology.

12. Republican conservativism is a mental disease......
Edited on Sat Jan-15-11 09:58 AM by Uben
....and it's caused by a combination of excessive fart sniffing and an extremely small amount of brain matter. Their brains are so small and weak that they cannot tolerate the gasses emitted from the anal cavities of their radio talk show hosts. Keeping their noses in such close proximity to the anal cavity of these hosts seems to cause accellerated breakdown of brain cells and interrupts the neuron activity in the portion of the brain that controls intelligent thought patterns. Some success in treating this phenomenon has been achieved by patients refraining from listening to right-wing spew, but the permanent damage caused by years of abuse means the large majority of them will suffer irreversible stupidity for the remainder of their lives.

Proteins found in the flesh of crows has been found to improve some patients, but even eating crow does not affect the deterioration of the electrical neuro-transmissions of the brain. Most are destined to long term ignorance.

While their numbers may actually be somewhat close, I doubt they can demonstrate an accurate method for remote diagnosis, birtherism notwithstanding.
