What are your thoughts on this video making the rounds?
So as I'm sure many of you have already seen, this video--a commentary by a guy named "Felonius Munk" on the state of the budget, debt, and deficit--has been been making the rounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRmZ9zH-mYM . On Facebook, I've had friends of ALL political persuasions (including liberals) post this video, though it seems to be a special favorite among conservatives--showing up on a number of conservative website.

So, what I want to know is this: what are YOUR thoughts on what this guy has to say?

3. I've seen it posted on Facebook a few times, but haven't watched it
And I can't watch it now because I have no speakers at work.

Hmm, I guess there wasn't much point in replying to this, I have nothing to contribute :)

5. EVERYONE agrees on balancing the budget, the difference is HOW.
I think this guy should realize that NOW isn't the time for austerity. Sure, balancing the budget sounds like a great idea, but the that's not the question, the question is HOW.

11. I think...
That it's misguided. Comparing government to running a household is not an accurate comparison, for one. For two, he never states HOW we should balance the budget, and he seems to think this is all Obama's fault, not recognizing the fault of the Bush Administration, or the structural/institutional influences of the military-industrial complex, corporate welfare, tax cuts for the wealthy, tax loopholes, bank-driven bailouts, etc that drive unnecessary spending and add to the debt. It's not something that Obama can just go in and "do," and when he's tried, he's been stymied by Republican opposition to all forms of revenue raising.

Lastly, I'm a bit uncomfortable with all the joy right-wingers are taking in this. There definitely seems to be a racial component to it--"Look, this ghetto-ass Black dude is giving Obama a SERIOUS ass-whooping! This is awesome!" It makes me really queasy. If this same guy were espousing some liberal dogma, they'd be all over him, or dismissing him as crazy or "stupid."

8. He's just spewing right wing boilerplate about a balanced budget
interspersed with profanity.

Spending isn't the problem. Raising adequate revenue is the problem since a few rich men stole most of the money and now refuse to pay their fair share of taxes on it, expecting people who work for a living to shoulder the burden of protecting their empires.

13. There's really no 'there' there
All he's saying is 'balance the budget.' That's nice and all, but a 4 year old could do that. If this guy wants to make a contribution to the debate, he should discuss actual plans for raising revenue and/or cutting spending. Anything short of that is hot air.

14. I think Mr. Felonius got some big bucks from some RW nutjob to do this
and I think I just wasted 3 minutes of my life I will never get back.

Hope I never see Mr. Felonius again. I wish him a great career as a spokesperson for the teabag set. Seems like he is their kind of guy.

oh and a "fuck, fuck, fuck" to you, mr. Felonius

17. I've seen this too...
I get the sense that this is just a guy who saw the amount of debt we're in, thought to himself "WHOA THAT'S A LOT," and made a post about how alarmed he was. I don't think he's a conservative tool, but I think he's jumping into this with little or no understanding of how the government is run, what goes into making a budget, or really any idea of what economics is.

18. The meme that running a government is the same as running a household or business has to end too.
He clearly buys into that as well.
