9. If this is the same storm that moved through California last night...
...our newsies were talking this morning about the fact that it's the earliest winter storm warning issued in 20 years. It's very unusual for California to get snow-producing storms in the beginning of October.

Couple this with the fact that it didn't stop snowing until late June, and there was snow in the mountains until mid-July, and this turns out to be one of the shortest California summers in memory.

4. Aint it great?
I'm in NM and it stormed all night. I slept with socks on and I'm wearing a cardigan and I don't think I've ever been this glad to see cool weather before. This summer was a stinker.

Another one is moving in tomorrow.

5. The first Midwest dump -- no wonder my snow-itis has flared up again

Flaky prayers may melt records
(2007) Frustrated with the balmy weather and scant precipitation...Skiers and snowboarders...tossed old skis into...a 45-foot-high bonfire...as a sacrificial gesture...to Ullr, the Norse god of winter...who they prayed would deliver heavy snow...Coincidence or not, the snow arrived within a matter of days. And it hasn't stopped...

NORTHEAST GRIPPED BY SNOW-ITIS EPIDEMIC
...The causes of snow-itis are unknown, but scientists have been studying a link between its outbreaks and weather patterns that result in large amounts of snow. While snowstorms are normally associated with inconvenience, a decrease in parking spaces, school closings, subzero temperatures, and the resulting stress, snow-itis victims derive and express pleasure from the situation...they have also been known to whistle a happy tune while digging their vehicles of snowdrifts...

8. Sacrifices still work for the olde gods
"Frustrated with the balmy weather and scant precipitation, the snow lovers tossed old skis into the flames as a sacrificial gesture to Ullr, Ullr, the Norse god of winter, who they prayed would deliver heavy snow to their fair mountain town.

Coincidence or not, the snow arrived within a matter of days."

There ya go! Blame the skiers

because it will be gone by the weekend. Plus the roads will be a mess.

11. It's cruising through Salt Lake now
it's raining, we are under wind advisory, and the temperature has dropped 20 degrees from yesterday.

Sigh.

I miss SoCal sometimes. Seasons are highly overrated.

12. I can remember being completely snowed in
around the 1st of September one year in Colorado. Also the end of May. Makes me glad I live in Alaska where the snow doesn't fly until the end of October.
