An Anecdotal comparison between Google and Bing search engines
I have spent the last 14 years trying to collect a set of 8 Fly Fishing reels. The things were made in the 1990s before the company went under. Part of my daily routine for the last 14 years has been to first do a search on the Internet in general for the reel's model name and numbers and of course to check Craig's List and E-Bay. Google has been my search engine since forever. I can't remember using anything else since I had Netscape. Over the 14 years I had managed to find and buy 7 of the 8 reels. For a few years there I wasn't even sure the 8th reel had ever been produced, but I was informed it was but that only a few specimens were made and two thirds of them had gone to Europe.

So last week I was sitting around with my thumb up my ass and nothing to do when I decided I'd try the Bing search engine, that I had heard about. So I changed to it and tried a couple of searches that I had recently used with Google. The first search I tried was the one I use daily searching for that last reel. Bam! There it was! The very first hit that Bing brought up was one of the reels, for sale with the price (In Pounds) showing. I immediately contacted the seller to ask if in fact the reed was there and for sale. He responded Yes and Yes. I bought it immediately of course.

But immagine that, years and years of searching with Google with no luck at all, one try on Bing and I nail it with the first hit.

1. so. . . .
if we are non-vegan, wader-wearing, line-casting, fly-fishing folks who collect specialty, hard to locate fishing equipment no longer made or repairable, by companies that went out of business 20 years ago, you suggest that we use bing instead of Teh Google?

3. Yep, but only for the gold models .....
It is a pretty obscure target for a search, no question about that. The things are beautiful though, you really have to see one to understand.

6. hot damn. I have never fished for flies, but I do
admire fine workmanship, and those are things of beauty.

Brass, I presume? With a hardwood hand carved handle?

Question. Do you use REALLY TINY HOOKS, depending on the species of fly that you seek?

4. I think you missed the point
Perhaps you need to spend more time sitting around with your thumb up your ass.
